Arrow Spine Advice/Opinion

I have always shot 300 spine arrows, and they tune super easy for me. However, I have a pile of 340 spine Easton axis uncut arrows that I decided to see if they will work considering I was going to build a new arrow setup this year and this will save a lot of money. So, my question is do you guys think a 340 spine will be ok for me given my setup.

Mathews lift x 29.5, 27.5" draw length, 70lbs

Currently my arrows are cut carbon to carbon 26.5" in 300 spine. Based on most spine charts looks like i would be good if I cut the 340 spine to 25.5". I think that's about as short as I can cut.

125gr broadhead/point
50 gr HIT plus 10gr collar = 60gr

So, 185gr up front. 3 fletch bohning Alpha vanes on back prolly 24gr and standard nock 6 gr.


I am only asking as I really do not want to cut a couple down just to test out.

My specs are 71/29.5". I've never run into problems with over spined arrows.. even shooting 250 spine with 100 grain heads.
I've had lots of problems tuning under spined shafts. The lightest shaft I ever shoot is 300's with 175 up front. Looking at what you're trying to build, that's clearly pushing the limits based on having that much weight up front. I wouldn't even consider it. I'd list those shafts for sale.

@Fins_N_Tines if you use a an Ethics 50 grain aluminum HIT it is substantially longer than a 50 grain brass. Stiffening the shaft quite a bit. If you cut them short you won't have any problems with stiffness.

I've done quite a few custom builds with these with great luck. I have a bunch around if you want some.

I think you would be fine with 185 gr on the front of a 340 shaft cut around 26”.
