So guys. I have a decent arrow but am curious what traits does everyone consider when choosing their hunting arrows?

Heavy. Tough. Sharp fixed blade head. That's my criteria.

I too prefer the heavier arrows. They hit hard and seem to be quieter out of my bow. I also like the thin shafts so Easton Axis works for me.

I'll always choose a thick-walled carbon thinner diameter arrow with the straightest specs and tightest tolerances I can find. In a .300 spine or stiffer this almost always equates to an ~500+gr arrow. I much prefer HIT inserts to any outsert. Then I throw on some 2" QS's to finish them out.

Then they need to be able to withstand being shot into all kinds of materials and remaining undamaged.

What's the vote for weighted inserts and such??? Obviously it's dependent on the bow setup but in general??

Weighted inserts are nice if you need to increase your FOC. otherwise they arent really necessary.

I also like skinny heavy arrows. Although mine arent quite as heavy as some mentioned, i come in right at 478grns.

Just like the rest of you, I will be shooting skinny, heavy arrows (330 Injexions) with Exodus heads. One nice thing for 2015 is that we can finally use lighted nocks legally in CO.

Switched from 300 FMJs that were about 460gr to VAPs that are 450gr for elk. Interesting thing, my 396gr whitetail VAPs get about 6" more penetration in my Block than the the 460 gr FMJs. The oversized outsert really helps increase penetration. Just puttin on a over size diameter field point will give you another couple inches penetration because of the reduced drag.

Cool I think I may have to experiment with some weighted inserts, never used them before. Ordering new arrows soon, think I m going to try kinetic gold tips.

I switched to the FMJ this year to try out the heavier setup and am shooting the 125 grain vented VPA. My whole setup is around 475 grains and my broadheads are flying right with my field points out of my Elite.

Ready to drop the string on a bull, 16 days now til I leave and each day I am getting more distracted at work. I think I have the contour lines of a new unit I am trying out this year dang near memorized at this point.

Started shooting the goldtip kinetic kaos this year with the Easton Brass inserts. The 50gr insert with a 100gr head puts me right around 480gr. The higher FOC and overall arrow weight while maintaining good speed (around 290fps) is devastating. The heavier insert lets me shoot 100gr heads without sacrificing the overall weight or weight upfront. Really liking the smaller diameter vs the hunter XTs I was shooting last year

I use to use PSE Radial X-Weave and they are a great shaft and were tipped with Wac'ems. Total weight was 387 grr with pass throughs on elk.

I have switched to Easton Injexions tipped with a Hartcraft Scooptail. Total weight of 438 gr and gained a bit more KE.

And no matter what head you use, just be sure it is a sharp one!!

I like a heavier arrow but not to stiff so it can still be tuned at my draw weight. A heavy arrow isn't worth a darn if it flies like a gut shot quail!!
Acc Pro hunting shaft 28.5 x 9.7grains pr inch =276.45 grains
Insert weighted = 23.00 grains
Nock = 9.00 grains
Blazer fletching = 18.00 grains
Slick trick 125 broadhead =125.00 grains
Total =451.45 grains
