Arrow diameter?

I'm looking at changing arrow since my archery season is over and the arrows I'm looking at are the Gold tip kinetics, pro or xt hunters and Easton axis. But my question is does the diameter of the shaft really make a big difference in penetration on big game?
The arrows that are on top of my list are the Gold tip pro hunters but not sure if I'll get as good of penetration with how big they are?

My bow bow is a 2013 Hoyt spyder turbo at 30" draw, but may sell it to change to a elite.

Doesn't make a difference. The animal provides plenty of lubricants in the form of blood and fluids.

Logically it should make a difference and all the articles say it does. In my experience, I compared them by shooting into a new foam target and the difference was negligible. They maaaybe penetrated a half inch more. It wasn't consistent or obvious. (shooting 29.5 inch draw at 70lbs). The narrow diameter arrow was actually slightly heavier per inch, which was also counter intuitive. A slightly heavier arrow will penetrate more. I expected them to lighter. I switched over to a small diameter and haven't had a reason to go back to larger diameter, but the benefits were never as much as I expected.

Thanks for help as of now I shoot the Easton injexions and they work good, but don't want to shoot deep six anymore since the choice for broadheads is limited and not stiff enough spine.

If I were to get the pro-hunters in a 300 spine cut at 29.5" would they be under spined with a 125 head and 50 grain insert? With bow set at 70-75pounds?

From my experience. I can't tell if it makes a difference on the animal. Most of my shots have been pass throughs. But I did notice a big difference in targets, about 6 inches more penetration. I know its not the same, but the way I see it if I make a marginal and hit bone, I want the most penetration as possible.

Another theory, which makes sense, is that crosswind will make less of an impact on arrow drift. I haven't tested this myself or experienced it yet.

BTW, I shoot VAP arrows, with the steel outserts, 125g head, weights 480g out of a Hoyt Faktor Turbo at 80lbs.

They sure make a difference in a cross wind! I can tell ya that. I use the Axis N-fused at 10.3gpi w/ 2" Blazers. Tough little suckers.

Ask all the guys who've killed animals with 22XX or 23XX aluminum arrows.

For me, arrow diameter is just above color of the graphics as far as major concerns. All modern carbon arrows are smaller than the aluminums we used to hunt and kill with.

I couldn't shoot Injections because they didn't have a stiff enough spine. I use VAP V1, but still put Deep6 inserts in them. I'm just not a fan of outcerts and hear too many stories. Pretty sure mine are 300's, but since you're adding weight you might jump to 250s. Best to check the charts vs go by what I say, but VAPs will have something for you. Nearly all my shots have been pass throughs on deer using Rage Hyperdermics.
