Aron Snyder fired from Born Primative

9 pages, and I haven’t seen enough ideas that couldn’t be summed up in a couple posts, mostly focused on Snyder’s character. I’m way more interested in the conversation that needs to be had with non hunters when they see a video like this:

I’m generally of the opinion that people should know that their food has to die to be eaten, and it helps to appreciate the gravity. There is no death that isn’t ugly to some extent if you dwell on it. We’re sinners in a fallen world, and things die so we can eat. It’s hard to talk about animal cruelty without that baseline. Anyways, regarding this video:

1. I’d rather see the coyote die quickly than be left to rot in a fence row
2. Bad decisions tend to compound;
3. A gun would be much better, but we do dumb things like leave guns on the glassing knob sometimes.
4. There’s a huge difference between animal cruelty and making multiple compounding bad decisions.

I’m no Snyder fanboy but that video was pretty underwhelming after the way guys hyped it up.

I don't understand the need to post these videos. I saw a discussion about a video that Josh Bowmar posted of him shooting an arrow at a Coues deer at over 100 yards. He evidently couldn't tell where he was aiming and ended up shooting it in the neck. I also saw a video of mfjj shirtless in a hot tub, shooting a pig while drinking bourbon. All are bad looks for hunting in my opinion.

I agree that society has grown soft, but as hunters we need to recognize that and not provide more fuel for those wanting to end hunting, fishing, trapping, 2nd amendment rights, etc.

I watched the video. It was bad. Not as bad as I thought it was going to be, but still pretty bad. Enough to lose employment over.

That said, I think there could be a much darker undertone to this. I think A-Ron wanted to get a knife kill. The dude was ready record it and everything, and he might have had intentionally shot the coyote in the leg to do so. My reasoning is that he was carrying a stupid big knife with him. Nobody as outdoorsy and ole A-Ron would carry a knife that big if it wasn’t for the purpose of shanking something. Then, he just taps it on the head like some kind of Jeffrey dahmer or John Wayne gacy, instead poking more holes in it to end its suffering faster.

This is a strange man.

Torture is a stretch for me. But another example of stupidity reaching the what were you thinking level.

He needed to finish that coyote and figured he may as well get some exciting content. No doubt in my mind he wanted it recorded. After he kicks and rolls the yote he gives a “you getting this” glance to the camera.

Took awhile, coyote finally bit him. Ethics or stupidity, either is understandable for BP letting him go.

I think this is unfortunate. Despite whether Aron is your "type" of guy, or despite it being bad optics amd gives anti hunters something to yell about... its really sad. Every single person, even the best of us, do things throughout life that are going to look bad, and sometimes are just objectively bad or regretful. But. One thing is for sure, no matter his personality type, he was one thing; very gracious to offer ANYONE help at ANY time. I guarantee he responded to more people, even through text than anyome in this industry and didnt seemed bothered a bit if you asked him the simplest of questions. I woukd safely bet thousands of people had ono on one condos with him who needed help understanding something in the outdoor space. Ive been an absolute knucklehed all of my life, but also try hard to do good. Why cant it be both? And personally, with the context we do have, no way this was a video or careless torture as so many people are saying. Does the video easily come off bad? Sure. But does a 30 second video define his character? Hell no. For someone so willing to share and help people, to me THAT defines his character far more. His personal video this morning about leaving the social space is bittersweet. Its unfortunate what backlash this video justly or unjustly causes to our space. But I hope he finds peace and gets to enjoy his life without the stress or spotlight. And his value to this space will most certainly be lost and missed.
Those of us casting stones. Its a shame.

Underwhelming for someone who has hunted a bunch and maybe has a bit more context. But absolutely disgusting to those who don’t hunt, aren’t as connected to the land, and will see this clip blasted on some citizen initiatives to end coyote or all predator hunting. Ethics are what we do when no one is watching or when we think no one is watching, this was terrible decisions on many levels and does nothing positive for our lifestyle. Like many many of the video’s posted about hunting these days.
Leave your ego and camera at home!!!

i don’t disagree with any of this. I’m just turning my focus to what needs to happen in actual conversations with non hunters.

Like others have said........dont film it and it doesn't get posted. If my buddy pulls out his phone tell him you don't want it on video. Consquences for doing stupid s**t. There are people getting fired daily for posting dumb things that they did that are non hunting related. Remember these videos will live forever in cyber space. I tell my kids this on a regular basis.

Like Hnthrdr posted above. Leave your ego and camera at home. Situation sucks but that is the new world we live in.

I have had to use my knife a few times over the years to slit the throats of a few animals. Last one was a doe I hit with my car and broke its back. Usually carry a pistol but didnt have it on me this time. Last thing on my mind is filming it and posting it. It seems like common sense that there are going to be people that think this action was inhumane.

Someone gets a hold of the video and with a quick edit or some AI help and a post.....next thing you know I have protestors outside my house or place of work. Doesn't matter if it was right or wrong. Consequences.

I think you tell them that this is no way representative of the wider hunting community and that all ethical hunters would agree that messing with a wounded animal is cruel and that animals should be dispatched as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimize suffering even predators hard to explain away what that video was though it’s going upset like 95% of hunters and 100% of the general population…

I just watched the link from Cowboy State Daily, and unless there was more to it, I don't think that it was out of line at all for dispatching a coyote. You can't think of every little nuance when you are in the moment. I agree with others that I absolutely hate that it seems like everything has to be recorded.
It's scary how quickly folks will turn on each other. That's one reason why I keep to myself and live out in the sticks!

I don’t really keep up with any of these influencers anymore because I think they do more harm than good for the hunting community, but long ago I used to listen to that podcast with Aron and frank. They used to be close hunting partners and then had that falling out and frank I believe went to stone glacier? Perhaps Frank released the video timely with the new pack release. Just speculating

Those are some huge accusations man, I would definitely not think that. Bought a rifle from Frank not too long ago, only impression I got from him is he is a stand up guy.

Doesn’t matter who released it, A+aron should have been better, it’s not much to ask to not taunt a wounded 30lb critter for “fun” or “sport” or clout, it’s gross, I’ve killed a pile of coyotes and other “nuisance” animals never once felt the need to mess with them. It’s weird and wrong, is 12 yr old behavior not grown man stuff

Just furthers my belief you can trust very few people and most will stick a knife in your back at any time. This isn’t random timing that it was leaked. Some one did this with intentional timing.
