Aron checked in

"Bears still in trees. Going to wait on it all day. Lane wants ice cream-said he is hiking out alone if something does not hit the ground soon. Lane is Ryan's 13 year old son and hiked in to hang out with the cool guys (may 25/ 11:57pm)"

Looking at the text time/stamp, and Aron's posts, the SAT phone didn't send the above check-in until today???? I left my phone on all night????? Oh well, back on track now.

Dave/7mag, Lord willin' I'll be taking us all along on another mule deer hunt this fall. Losing that big Colorado buck I'd sat on that last day still troubles my soul.

I bet it does Robby. It's hard to take when you have put that much work in and then just plain miss. Lots of valid reasons for the miss but it still plain hurts.

That's the issue with backpack live hunts.....not as exciting since battery life is an issue and SAT phones can be picky.

Hiking back in now (new area)

Lets hope I don't jack up the turret adjustment again!

I'll shoot Robby a SAT phone text tonight with update.

Aron checked in, "Three Grizz and two small black bears. Nothing big. Going to glass another hour and then head back".

Unless Ryan hits one with the 2 door magnum, I'm going home empty handed.

The two bears we spotted were within 200 yards, but 4 footers and I decided not to take one.

I did get one coyote, one moose shed and 4 ticks (one in the hunters crack).

I have one....needs sunshine to work, and I'm in north Idaho.

We picked up a guide 10 power pack for this very reason...gives a reserve battery you can take into the field and use if its overcast. Then recharge if the sun ever comes out. On shorter trips we will likely bring the guide 10 along without the solar panel, and be good for at least one charge on stuff...

Just a thought.

Yep I use the Goal zero guide 10 also. Completely love it. Although it is kind of heavy its worth its weight but like Aron said you need sunshine for it to charge. I found you can get a charge on the Guide even if you are overcast just takes twice as long.

The New Trent battery pack ice actually a better choice.....for me anyway.
