Dave! Them's sweet words to me. I feel MUCH better now. I was just sure I'd have to put up with a week of teasing from Aron and Ryan. Still might, really.

Ahh given Aron's military history that makes sense. I was in the Airforce so that doesn't really count as military ;) and no wonder I didn't know that slang version, especially since the Airforce doesn't miss

Hunts on! Ryan must've made the rendezvous. From Aron's SAT phone, 6:20 AM:

"Ryan and Lane are here now, on bears yesterday. Paraphrase my messages if needed HA HA"

I knew that last part was coming.

Lane is Ryan's son, about 13 if memory serves me right.

Definition : originally a reference to a children's toy. the clown was a weighted bottom blow-up punching bag. it was designed to pop back up to a standing position when knocked over. essentially, punching the clown is a useless act which accomplished nothing. often used in reference to menial tasks and bureaucratic corporate jobs.

This is probably what he meant::
punching the clown is a useless act which accomplished nothing

I had one of those stupid clowns and he always came back for more, Maybe Aron's bear will come back.:)

From Aron's SAT phone: "Big Bear Spotted. Closed the distance but he hasn't come back out of trees".

Ok, I'm curious, you mention in your video that you are packing the MSR stove and flying up. Do you rely on being able to purchase the fuel canisters when you get there as I was thinking that those types were not allowed on aircraft? Reason I ask is that I'm planning a fly in caribou hunt in AK and even the transporter states on website that we must bring white gas type stove. Anybody else run into this? Might be another idea of gear test of multi fuel stoves, as if you didn't have enough gear to test already. Have fun!

Yep Kolbeck...that's how it works up there if you are flying commercial to get to AK. If you can stop in Anchorage or Fairbanks and buy some canisters prior to your bush flight out you can pick them up then. Often, pending on your final location, you might even be able to stop in small villages and purchase white gas for your stove--but it will cost you a pretty penny! Like $12-20 for a can of white gas that you can but at WalMart for 1/3 of that. And HOPE and PRAY they have some.

Like I said...if you can hit WalMart, Fred Meyers or just about any other store in AK you should be able to find fuel canisters.

Just be sure your bush flight service will allow them. When we flew with one of the bigger bush flight companies last year they wouldn't fly isobutane at all, and were asking to see our stove on check in to verify. They said white gas or straight propane were all that specific company could fly due to FAA permits.

Tagging on to what Becca stated, most isobutane canisters do not meet DOT rules for aircraft with passengers. Freight only it would be ok in some cases. There are exception rules due to their size, but the makers don't care to go through the process and certify their gear.
To figure it all out would take days.

Haven't heard from them. Beginning to wonder if that bear finally came out of trees and got them?

Robby , you're still king of the live hunt . I still remember waiting those bucks out with you. Aron and Ryan are on an occasionally updated semi live hunt but nothing like a live mule deer hunt with you.

I agree. Nobody takes us on a live hunt like Robby.

The bear never showed himself.

Heading back to town and dropping lane off.

Going to shower up and head to a new area.

Getting on a bear in thick stuff without the aid of bait is some tough hunting. Best luck to you two , hope one steps out in the clear for you again before the clock runs out.
