Arizona OTC January Archery Guided hunt

Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a guide for a January OTC Archery Mule Deer Hunt. Or if a guide is really even needed. I have used most of my vacation on my other hunts this year but really want another chance to get a buck as I struck out in California for deer and missed a shot at an elk in Idaho. I know it’s last minute but figured I’d at least look into it. I only have a couple vacation days left so time is limited so a diy Hunt would be difficult not knowing the area and not having much time to scout.
If anyone has used a guide please let me
Know how it went and if the guide was worth it?

Arizona mountain outfitters are very reasonable and will put you on deer for sure

Thanks guys appreciate the replies I’ve found some just by googling including Big Chino Outfitters. I was just hoping someone had some First hand knowledge or used one.

A guide in AZ isn't necessary, but finding deer there can be tough. I know my areas like the back of my hand, and would still go a day or 2 without seeing a buck from time to time. . If you have the money, go for it

I’ve hunted with Shawn from Arizona mountain outfitters for the early season and if I could shoot straight I could have had 150+ class buck. I will PM you his number

I’ve dealt with Big Chino before and always liked talking to Mr. JP. He tells it straight. I also like the fact that all of the guides and employees of the company are firefighters and EMT certified. I like to support first responder companies and I’ve never felt like I was dealing with anyone shady or slick while talking with them.

Hey dude, I’m new on the forum, but saw this topic posted up top and figured I’d throw some good info your way. I have been down to TLO out of Flagstaff AZ multiple times with other guys to film for them and I have been blown away every time by the work ethic Lance and His son Weston have put in. They have an extremely high success rate and the pictures to prove it. Their were two people that he told me about that did not fill their tags and I believe that was on multiple shots these people had at Coues deer. Lance has guided well over 300 successful Elk hunts I do know because we talked about it while I was there last. They will do just about anything that you want to hunt in AZ. They’ve always been extremely honest and you can sure bet that when you come in at night you’re gonna have a hell of a meal! I was there for the OTC hunt last year in abnormally warm weather during January to film an archery hunt. They never made a single excuse or a negative comment about the weather. They just continuously worked harder and hunted the deer the way they told us to. Lance is always willing to fill you in on best draw odds or areas that are easier to draw that they have high success in too. +1 (928) 607-9380 is his number. Inbox me if you need anymore info. His Instagram is @TLOHunts and his Facebook is Timberland Outfitters if you do the social media stuff. He’s constantly updating results on hunts

A3 has a very cool guide only package for this hunt at a very reasonable price.

A guide is not needed at all to find deer in AZ during January. I would say Wards has probably the surest thing because he has a ton of private land that he gets to hunt and has a very high success rate.
TLO is another great outfit that puts the work in for his clients. Big chino.... Well, I would skip them personally.
Az Ground pounders are some of the most solid dudes you will find. Tons of great guides here. I would start making some phone calls and see who gives you the best vibe/feeling. Any specific questions, send me a pm and I will try to steer you in the right direction.

Can you tell me why you would skip big chino? You can pm me if you’d like. I’ve heard a couple of different folks say things like that and I’d like to know why before I deal with them any further on a few things.

Thanks everyone for all the info and replies I’ve emailed and been in contact with some of the guides/outfitters you guys have listed. Still waiting on some emails back from a couple as well.

Some well say skip Big Chino others would argue just as fast or faster to skip A3. Those saying one way or the other have either hunted with one vs the other or know guides that work for one or the other.

I own and operate Shadow Valley Outfitters. We have a couple slots open. Lots of references available. Check out Instagram @shadowvalleyoutfitters or give me a call or text directly and we can chat more. We’ve got a great group of incredibly hard working guides.
