Are there any comparable alternatives to OnX ?

I just downloaded all my OnX content and uploaded it to CalTopo. I am excited to use CalTopo. It is cheaper and much more geared towards my kind of outdoor/backcountry.

Ever since I learned about companies like OnX and other conservation orgs raffling off expensive hunts and driving up demand for tags I got a sour taste.

I’ve been an OnX member for several years and love the product. But lately I’ve been seeing more and more pop up ads on the app.
It’s a small thing I know, but it drives me crazy.

Are there any solid alternatives to OnX?

Caltopo is an option, especially with one of their paid accounts. It takes a little time to figure things out, but it works well. Easy to import all your OnX waypoints into it, but Caltopo doesn't have the same hunting-focused icons and some of the specific hunting layers and functions.

Finally got around to this, and figured I'd share as I hear complaints from time to time about satellite image quality.

Summary:

Log into your account and use this link:

Gaia GPS: Navigate, Track, and Explore

Log in to use the web map, plan trips, and manage your Gaia GPS data.

(Delete the space after https, that’s there to get the URL to show up correctly on the forum)

I name it "Google Earth" and use a zoom range of 1-20.

After creating the datasource via the web, sync your app and the data source should be available.

Funny - but mine still works with the GE Layer and has never broken with that initial change over 6 years and multiple phones ago.

I keep thinking about switching to OnX on principle but it's been hard to Leave Gaia behind because I've used it forever, and I also use Trailforks for MTB, so getting both Gaia/Trailforks for $60/year as part of Outside+ isn't a bad deal... And, it just works.
