My 1000R has a EHr (equivalent horizontal range) setting I can turn on or off. Once turned on it stays on permanently unless I go back into settings and turn it off. Are you saying even with it on it won't give the angle compensated range on the first reading? If so that's a problem!

Well that sucks! Tested the Lecia 1000R on a hill and it gives the direct line of sight distance then 1 to 2 seconds later the angle compensated distance shows up. That just simply isn't going to work...

Something I discovered when researching is another item for consideration. The SIG and Leica both have an LED display that automatically adjusts the intensity/brightness to light conditions. The Leupold and Vortex both have LED displays that have to be adjusted manually to the desired brightness setting. As I recall both units have three display brightness levels. The downside of this manual display is if you set it on the brightest setting during mid-day then forget about and try to range an animal at dusk you'll be looking through a really bright display that'll be hard to read and then create issues for seeing your target after ranging.

Based on this and weakness of the Leica angle comp reading delay I've returned the Leica and exchanged it for the SIG.

In my quest to replace a Nikon Rifle Hunter 1000 with a better unit I've now bought and returned the Vortex 1500, Leupold 1200 & Leica 1000R. In addition to the issues with each described throughout this thread I've also found the Vortex and Leupold displays can be impossible to read on really bright days against light backgrounds such as sage or dried grass. That might be because I'm color blind but the fact I can't see those two brand's displays in certain conditions ruled them out completely. I can see both the Leica and SIG displays in all conditions and chose the Leica because it's optics were better but the angle comp reading delay ruled it out.

I'll see how the SIG works out....
