Archery hunt Colorado vs Montana

Man I'm done bow hunting as a Montana resident. Until they give us trad guys a couple weeks to hunt it's absolutely pointless. I might pick my longbow up again to chase deer sometime in a couple years. But with all the pressure it's just not fun.

With a rifle a guy can play the pressure a lot easier. But when you have two to three yahoos trying to both call the same group of elk. It's just not fun.

Can't even get away from the people anymore. You'll be four miles in and find three fat dudes from Iowa spiked out in a bedding

Also too my kids are older and they just rifle hunt. So it makes more sense to spend the time and money with them vs the inanity that's bowhunting elk in MT.

These threads are so interesting. Pressure is all about perspective. A guy that’s spent his whole life in Wyoming would consider the hunting pressure that the vast majority of people East of the Mississippi contend with to be more crowded than Costco on a Saturday afternoon. Yet, there’s guys in those areas that are on world class animals year after year, despite the pressure.

You can absolutely get away from enough people to have an enjoyable hunt, everywhere. The question becomes can you effectively hunt it and get an elk out of it, from a physical and time perspective.

Just wanted to ask a quick question on what the major differences are when hunting Montana and Colorado for archery elk? I have hunted the past few seasons in some of Colorados more difficult terrain and was just wondering what y'all find to be the biggest differences between the two states? Whether it be hunting style, terrain, situational calling.... just curious. Thanks!
I’ve never hunted MT, but do seem to see a lot of videos and listen to a lot of podcast saying grizz are a constant thing to think about.

Now Colorado I’ve hunted 2 years in a row in the same unit. Altitude got me for a couple days both years but we still managed 1 bull elk killed in 2024 and striking up multiple bulls couple days. in 2025 constantly being on bulls everyday but very edging when getting aggressive with calling. Cow calling is huge in my opinion in Colorado. Setup is key, locate and cow calling right to them.
