What's everyone's favorite sleep system during archery elk.

Base camp for me is a 14x16 wall tent from Davis and back packing in is a mix of a bivy and tarp or Seek outside LBO based on weather expected. Rocking a VIAM quilt at the moment but changing that in the near future.

Do you guys always prefer quilts over sleeping bag?

100%. Lighter weight, more comfortable, no issues with draft if you use a good pad attachment system. I personally see no downsides with a quilt.

My own queen sized bed… but I live less than an hour from my favorite trailhead.

But for backpacking I’ve liked my Kifaru Quilt and big Agnes Q core deluxe pad over a tyvek ground cover all under my Kifaru paratarp or Tut tipi.

Kifaru Sawtooth with liners and bug netting, 18" titanium cylinder stove, ExPed 8R wide pad with foam for protection, Black Ovis 20 or 0 degree bag. Having a way to dry your clothes (gloves/socks) is huge!!

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2, Thermarest Neoair Large, Enlightened Equipment Enigma Quilt 10 degree, Trekology Aluft Pillow with Strap.

This system works great for me. I can lay my Exo 3500 pack next to me with my bow on top. We had mice crawling around us on one of our hunts so I don’t want to chance damage to my pack or bow.

I’m a side sleeper / roller, so the quilt was an improvement for me over a mummy bag.

What temperatures do you typically expect? Hopefully headed to CO for my first time, and am in need of good info for sleep systems as well.

If you're in some kind of shelter to break the wind it's worth the weight savings. I have slept under the stars without a bivy or shelter in the quilt on a pad, and woke up on my side with a little draft.

My do it all shelter and sleep system are a Big Agnes Tigerwall 2 UL, ground tarp underneath, Klymit insulated static v pad, Big Agnes torchlight 20* down bag (long), and the cheap Klymit inflatable pillow. I add and subtract as needed but this has been comfortable from about -10* to 70*. When its cold I usually camp at the truck and use a GI green wool blanket wrapped around my sleeping pad for extra insulation, but I almost always end up unzipping the bag and using it more as a blanket.

I'm looking to upgrade some of my set up, starting with a quilt from enlightened probably, then a better pad and eventually a tipi with a stove.

Kifaru Tut floorless shelter, Xtherm pad, (Borah Gear bivy or MLD Duomid half nest) and a Western Mountaineering Badger 15* bag. Works perfectly for me every Sept during archery elk in CO

What about the problem of your head getting cold when it's like 30deg out and you're in a quilt?

You wear a beanie. I pick different ones to take depending on expected temps. I'll throw a fleece neck gaiter in to use when expected temps dip further. If needed I've been known to throw a shirt or something over my head as well. Some wear down balaclava's made for this purpose. I've never been able to sleep with my head stuffed inside a mummy bag, too claustrophobic so the above methods all feel normal to me and what I've done forever.

I can’t find any “hunting” pics of the setup but here’s a couple from a summer fishing trip. Any particular information you’d like to know about it? Maybe I can answer without a pic.
