My Wife and I are CO natives that are ready to get off the Front Range. Too many people, too much traffic, and getting too expensive for our liking! One of the areas we're looking at moving to is Montrose and I have a few questions I'd like to PM someone that lives in the area.

Thanks in advance!

I lived in Denver from 1999 - 2009. My job took me to the Seattle area for 3 years and then my company asked me to move to the San Francisco area. I told them hell no, I wouldn't move there so I worked out a deal to work remotely and visit the Bay Area once a month. Instead of moving back to Denver I took the opportunity to move to Montrose in 2013. My wife is from here and we love it. Small town, no people, outdoor paradise. I have no intention of ever leaving.

I've lived next door, just across the county line in Delta County for three years and have done a lot of work in Montrose. I'm a little more spread out now, living part of the time in Delta County as well as the San Luis Valley.

Montrose is full of outdoor sports-loving people. Lots of families ride motorcycles, atvs, hunt, fish, etc. Some very serious backcountry users. The town is fairly close to some of the pricier ski resorts, and you do see some very moneyed folks/influence in Montrose, but it's a good mix - somewhere between a resort community and a rural small town. My favorite aspect of the area is the massive amount of public land, BLM and Forest Service, immediately adjacent. In February and March when I feel stir-crazy I go hiking and fishing on BLM lands around Montrose.

I've been checking out Montrose for a potential place to retire. Looks right down my alley :)

Heath,

Do t if you can swing it, then hire me in a few years. I would if I could but I want to get my kids through high school here first. Have a safe season,

Kevin

Thanks for the responses guys! My wife and I have concluded it has everything we want from an outdoor perspective, just trying to get a grasp on the town itself. We're planning on taking another visit the weekend of October 20th.

Kevin- That's kind of our thought process here, would like to move somewhere before we have kids so we don't force them to move. You come up with the business, I'll start it then you can take it over when move out!

Grew up close to there. Montrose has always been a community that aggressively pursues growth. They've also been smart, not going crazy and building a fancy new high school, etc. I've always been impressed with the place. The traffic is getting a little thick is my only criticism.
