Anyone got SG Cirque and Cirque Light Jackets

Here is what I am preparing for. I am going on a sheep hunt the first of September in BC, then a mountain goat hunt in BC in November. I HATE to be cold. One fellow Rockslide member recently educated me quite a bit on insulation.

I am trying to figure out if I should roll with the Cirque or the Cirque Light? In my mind, I have on a wool base then maybe the a SG Helo, then the Cirque or the C. Light, then a shell. Seems to me if I have the Cirque and am a little too hot, then it goes in the pack. If Cold while more stationary then it goes on. I do plan on carrying a down puffy too for when we are stationary for longer periods.

If you have both which do you go to most often an why?

Just what I wear for those hunts when being active, I wear only my base and my rain jacket with pit zips open. For me I get too hot and wouldn’t be wearing a synthetic jacket while moving. I would put on the puffy when sitting. I personally wouldn’t bring both a puffy and synthetic jacket.

It may help to see if it is going to be super wet vs more dry, to help determine which jacket to take.

If you’re taking a down static insulation layer, I’d consider the heavier cirque vest. Cirque light otherwise since it’s a tweener piece for your use.

I’d suggest taking a Sitka ambient 75 or 100 over your base layer.

I would take the Ambient 100 and skip the Cirque, especially if you have a good down jacket.

A base layer, helio, and cirque light is my go to winter set up when active. As a reference point, when now-shoeing my trap line, the sweet spot for me (with that combo) is right around 0*-10*F. Any warmer and I start to overheat.

As an example, I pulled my last lynx at -20 and was wearing exactly what you mentioned, plus a wool zip-up and cheap LL bean puffy and was totally comfortable.

I’ve hunted northern BC in September and that amount of layers would have been unnecessary imo.

Between the two, I would pick the light since a.) you’re already bringing down and b.) the fit on the cirque heavy is uncomfortably tight in the shoulders. The light has a much nicer fit.

I was gifted the cirque. It's an interesting jacket, but I'm really liking it. It's warmer than I thought it would be/feels. Definitely not a replacement for my down jacket in the warmth department though.

I would like to try the Cirque light, I think it would be better for me and my needs.

I’ve been active with a similar set-up on a bright sunny day with air temps around 15*F and wind chills around 5*F. I was comfortable and maybe closer to the warmer side. Does a decent job blocking light wind as well.
I’m finding the Cirque Lite to be a very versatile piece the more I wear it.
(For reference, 6’3” 195-200lbs, size XL fits great)

I have the SG Grunman. You say good down jacket, I have the Kuiu Burner Jacket but suspect it has no place on a trip like that. It is big and hot but not something you layer with rain gear etc.

Grumman is good, Burner would be overkill if backpacking for sure.

Let me add on other fact. There could also be a lot of horseback riding from spot to spot. It is not 100 percent backpack hunt.

The burner parka would be overkill several times over.
