Great time man and enjoy. I should be there too and my Desert ram will be on display so can’t wait. There’s a whole lot to see and do for sure.

Planning on it. Nothing really can’t miss except the life member breakfast for me. I’m not eligible for the less than one and that is way too many people to deal with for a chamois hunt so I skip that event. Lots of outfitters and gear. Lots of good seminars, especially the cooking seminars; can’t wait to see that they have planned for that. Superb banquet food and program.

Good show, elite of the hunting community financially attends this show.

Not as enjoyable as other similar shows because of it.

Had a couple very strange things happen to me at that show.

If you are trying to buy something or book something, and someone senses that a "whale" walked into the booth, even if you are in the midst of writing a check, I have been pushed out of the booth or ignored to make way for the whale.

This sounds all too familiar! Last time I attended a few years back, I was looking at booking a Yukon fannin sheep hunt. I had a preferred outfitter I wanted to book with and they wouldn’t given me the time of day on two separate occasions when I entered their booth. This was a premier outfitter, but they cater to deep pocket guys that are well known or glorified by their sheep hunting exploits in WSF or GSCO magazines. I went to my second choice outfitter, Blackstone, had a great chat with Jim and one of his guides and wrote a check straight away. Had a fantastic hunt with them!

I’m 50-50 if I will attend this year. Always turned off by the arrogance of those that attend and the hunt prices these days. It’s just become stupid and hard to enjoy.

I'm going for the 3rd year in a row. I booked a Dall hunt two years ago while there. I spoke to a bunch of outfitters and never got turned away for my interest. But it is VERY different than going to some regional deer and turkey show in the midwest. Part of me loves it. There's plenty of average dudes there and not everyone is rich. On the flip side, giving awards and nonsense to some ultra wealthy guy for getting his 10th slam or something is a little off-putting. I went to one of the lunches the first year where they give awards for the biggest XYZ animal of every species. All the sheep and goat species of the world. One guy had a dozen or better of them just that year. Maybe he's a nice guy, I don't know. I'm not jealous in the slightest. It's just seemed weird.

Yeah, if we all had the same access to hunting opportunities with trophy caliber animals, then I could see where over time someone consistently killing high scoring animals of a species could be given some kind of accolades. But we don't. This is just giving attention to whoever spends the most money on hunting, which based on the missions of these orgs makes sense, but as a hunter I don't have any more respect for someone that kills a giant than someone who kills barely legal. More often than not, the difference in those two comes down to nothing more than being at the right place at the right time/weather, or being taken by your outfitter to the best spot. Luck, influence, or paid advantages (Tiburon Island vs Sonora)... not skill.

It has nothing to do with skill 99% of the time.

If you look at the records books, it is super rare for most species to not be guided. Whitetails, mule deer and pronghorn not withstanding.

I have talked to quite a few guys at booths and all of them have been really nice guys to talk with. Even them knowing I'm not booking a hunt, just asking questions about the species. I'm sure there are some guys who wont give the time of day to anyone, but I haven't encountered that.
