Anyone ever bring a backup magazine?

I lost a mag on my old savage 110, so I started carrying an extra. Never lost a Tikka though.

Now, it’s just the way I carry my spare rounds. In lieu of an ammo wallet, I carry 2-3 extra mags with ammo. The tikka mags weigh <3 oz if I recall, and it’s less noisy than loose ammo. If I was really being weight sensitive, I would carry extra ammo in a ziplock. You don’t technically need a magazine.

Yep, I try to not have hunting rifles with a dbm for that inconvenience. If you were to lose it and not have an extra some rifles won’t be fun to single feed with a giant hole in the bottom and you likely wouldn’t be able to do it with any speed. I’d drop the money for my peace of mind

Had a random thought, if for some reason the magazine unknowingly dropped out of my Tikka during a hunt, how could I keep hunting?
A spare mag is $40, and doesn't weigh more than a few ounces, and could stay at the truck.

Not sure if this is a completely irrational fear, or if anyone else has had something happen that made them rethink that option.
Drop the $40 and carry a spare. Thats what they sell em for.

You can always shoot it sngle shot style.

If the gun won’t shoot wo magazine in it, that would be a design flaw. I’d never own a rifle i couldn’t shoot single style.

Too many handguns are like that too, drop the mag and its a paperweight. In a time of duress, that could get you killed.

Five round mag in my left hip pocket At all times. I have many one shot kills. Also one seven shot kill, which I don’t like to discuss unless as a cautionary tale when this question comes up. I was the laughing stock of camp, but I still had one shell left!

I shoot tikkas and I keep a secondary, loaded mag in my bino harness. A loaded mag is way faster to swap out than single feeding rounds after your first 3-5 are gone. Obviously not an ideal scenario where shots 1-3 don’t seal the deal, so in that event I want to be as efficient as possible with getting additional rounds down range.
This^^^^^^^^. I carry two extra mags. One in my bino harness and one in my pack.
