Anyone else been burned buying used?

I've had reasonably good results but the high cost of shipping has deterred me from buying unless it's a screaming good deal. Buying a firearm in L48 will cost me an additional $100 with shipping and FFL.

I bought a used Winchester 1885 Highwall 45/70 from a local guy when I lived in Az. I put 10 rounds through it and the hammer wouldn't stay cocked. I called the guy and of course got the "it never did it to me" so he was put on my ban list. I ended up selling it a few years later but with full disclosure of the issue to the buyer. I had many good deals from that forum prior so I figured it was about time to have a lemon and ultimately it comes down to "buyer beware". I wish I had kept it though, fun gun and my range has an awesome steel target setup for lead only.

I picked up a set of binos that were described as like new in the box, with all accessories. They showed up without the tripod adapter and the diopter ring wouldn't adjust properly for me. If you had perfect 20/20 vision you would never have known, so I didn't really fault the seller for it. I did contact him and ask if he ever noticed a problem and he said he hadn't, but instantly offered to cover the cost of shipping to Vortex for warranty work. I didn't take him up on that because I felt I got a fair deal otherwise and I honestly don't think he knew anything was wrong with the binos. He did send me the funds to cover the missing tripod adapter. Out of 20+ transactions between here and AT, and around 80 on the the big auction site, I've never felt really "burned" at the end of a deal. I HAVE found myself buying more stuff from the classifieds here because everyone has been so good to deal with.
