First, I've been a member on here for some time, but this is my first post. I'll say a little about myself at the end. Especially since I'm looking for friends and help.

I'm planning to hunt the Haul Rd 8/21 - 8/31 (including travel time from NJ). Will anyone on here be up there around then? Also would like a quote on a vehicle from Alaska 4x4. Do he book up fast?

Sorry accidentally hit 'post' 😅

...do they book up fast?

My name is Chris Gooden and the reason I haven't posted in so long is because just about everything I've ever needed was already discussed in detail on here lol. From ultralight backpacking to building packrafts to traditional archery. I've been hunting my whole life (38 years old) and have been working on getting equipped to Western hunt since 2020. I'm about there and want to start with a caribou hunt on the Haul Road before entering future big game draws. Again, most of my questions regarding the hunt itself have been answered by searching. I just might have to do this hunt solo, or with my girlfriend who is a non-hunter. It's obviously a popular hunt and I figure I'll find someone(s) up there worst case, but I'm wondering if anyone on here might be in the same or similar boat? Most of my friends don't have any gear, and are broke from Midwestern whitetail hunts, or have families and just can't. Or can't miss that much work. In general, it's exhausting trying to coordinate things with others and I'd rather literally DIY on my schedule.

Wow who hurt ya'll? Did you cry? My friend Noel lives in Fairbanks and is geologist who works along the Haul Road. Multiple ways to get away from the crowd. And I'm going to visit her regardless. It's probably the least expensive and accessible big game hunt. I expect nothing less along the highway.

It is a good trip, and worth the travel. There are people everywhere, and you are battling open terrain, weather, silly caribou, and other hunters coming or going from a hunting spot. Enjoy it for remoteness and the new adventure. I will be coming that way on the tail end of your trip so good luck and happy hunting.
