With reservation (see the end), I'm just seeing who will be hunting the Haul Rd around 8/22 - 8/30 including before and after?

I have a friend in Fairbanks that works for BLM I'm visiting then planning to head North solo on the 22nd. I have an Alpacka Mule packraft I'll probably bring as well as waders or wiggys.

I'm 38, in great shape and am well equipped to make a trek if anyone else happens to be solo. I'm only bringing a bow but will gladly go 5 miles. Should have pretty good info going into it too.

Hate to be this way bc most of you are great, but based on previous experience, please don't make my phone make a noise over some negative, useless b.s. comment. Folks like that don't need to be worried about what others are doing. They need to be worried about why they're worried about what others are doing. I know what this hunt is and I'm good with simply not being at work for a couple weeks. So now ya know 😉

Also, I live in NJ and I don't think anyone can imagine the invasion of tourists and fisherman that come here from Canada, NY, PA, DE, MD to reap our resources and congest our roads and waterways and litter and arrogance all while claiming to be responsible for our whole economy. I don't feel bad for anyone else regardless of where they live, but I respect it because I know what it's like. Visitors come with living in places worth visiting and hopefully you're not closed off to the area you reside in (or a hypocrite).. It's a big world.

Good luck this season everyone 🏹 🦌

@Gooden123 your last paragraph can be said to all areas where tourists are attracted ... asks the locals in alaska and in the yukon how they feel about it ...
Sorry I'm not asking anyone anything. Why would I? You don't think the haul road is one of the most accessible big game hunts in America? Access, OTC tags, just north of Fairbanks....sounds like a place 'tourists' are attracted. The whole reason I said what I said is to avoid these exact comments but here you are.

i cannot hunt anymore alaska without a guide and i do imagine that is exactly what is coming to most of the places. i do believe other areas in alaska where more accessible than the haul road but to each his/her opinion. on the second part if you do not want an intervention on a public forum there is not that much i can do for you ...

People are free to comment however they want. I thought sticking to the topic was just a pretty small ask but guess not since it didn't make it 12 hours 🤣

I read thread titles and if I have nothing to contribute to what the thread title says, I don't comment. It's actually easier that way and doesn't derail the persons thread.

But you're correct on all counts.

My wife and I will be up there Aug 16-26 on a drop camp hunt along the river. Good luck and have a blast. We were up there last year as well on a diy bow hunt and had a great time. We didn't kill a caribou but I was able to take a ptarmigan with my bow and we had several close encounters with great caribou. We saw a decent amount of hunters but I was mentally prepared for the pressure to be much worse. As a fellow East Coast hunter I completely agree with the whole pressure thing. It will be an incredible adventure and I'm sure you'll have a hell of a time!

I’ll be up there that time period this year. There will be lots of hunters but there is plenty of space to walk out and get away from most people. I try to do that as much as possible because the frustration of having a truck load of dudes bail out of their truck and blow your stalk really detracts from the experience. Get away from the road and enjoy!
