East central ohio. Picked about 80-90 this afternoon. Size was small to medium. Probably left another hundred in the woods to grow. Next weekend should be good to go. The weather sucks but at least we're getting moisture.

I’ve tried here in Colorado 4 years in a row. I’m 0-4. Funny that finding one little mushroom is harder than any elk, deer, antelope, sheep hunt I’ve ever been on. I hate them!!!

Checked my best spots yesterday and found two really dry ones. Not been good at all this year around here. At least not yet. Hopefully they will still decide to come up before long

20230506_162745.jpggot into my first bunch of them for the year. Seems a little early still, and I think it should end up being a pretty decent year for them!

Too bad the morels make me pee out my butt. I still hunt them for fun and make for others.

I recall someone telling me that they also got the trots when eating morels.

Turned out they were eating them raw….

FYI, small morels starting to pop in the Driftless (SW WI) but prime time is still a week or more away.

You definitely have to cook morels! But also, it can make you sick drinking alcohol with them. Not as bad as inky caps, but it has happened to me a few times. From what I understand, no mushrooms should be eaten raw though. Even the normal mushrooms folks buy at the store should be cooked.
