It had been a while since I'd gotten my backcountry skis and Kifaru pulk out of the garage, so I made a quick overnight run on the Grand Mesa.

Had a blast and will be going again soon.

Hope all you pulk pullers are having a great winter!

I did a little trip this weekend looking for coyotes. All I found were stupid elk.

Ended up building one for a buddy last night.

Use one to put the kids in and put some miles on in the winter. Wrap them up in a couple down blankets and hit the trail. Great fun and a great workout. It's got higher sides than the Kifaru but that one looks great for packing gear.

Cool video. I've elk hunted the Mesa many times and caught a bunch of cutthroats in Ward lake. Gorgeous area.

yup :) - nothing fancy, but it works really well. really handy when taking my wife on a winter overnighter, I can put all our gear in the pulk and she only needs to wear a day pack

I have an old Dana Designs lumbar pack that I add Mountain Smith strapettes to- pulls very comfortably

Was just talking about these at work today! Would come in handy for wolf hunting. Where can I buy one? Can I use a regular sled for one? I spent some time looking around on the net and couldn't find designs for building one from a regular sled. Any help would be much appreciated! Also, what are you all using for tents and bags for winter? I use a north face tadpole tent and north face bag.

Got my first pulk put together. I used a combination of designs I was able to dig up and from what was suggested above to create it. I used an emsco sled and schedule 40 pvc with paracord inside the pvc for the main parts. I also used paracord for the connecting joints to the sled. It seems to work ok. Then I matched it to an old kelty bow pack for the chest and hip belts using carabiners. I think the whole thing must have cost me a little over $100. Sled being most expensive at almost $50. All that was available to me. I just need some more snow to fall to get it out on a wolf hunt!

I have been working on a couple pulks for my wife's copper river bison tag next month. I think they should be light and roll up to fit in our back packs. They are four feet long by 16 inch wide with 4 inch sides.

I used 24 x 48 inch UHMW 1/16th inch thick. I think 1/32 would be a little better to roll up.

Two more questions! 1) Where did you get the UHMW? 2) do you think the thinner material would decrease pulling efficiency?

I've never used one but last winter one of my buddies met us at a backcountry ski hut and had ALOT of food and drinks on one. It was pretty sweet to have fresh raw meat, veggies, kabobs, beers etc 5 miles deep in the wilderness in 20 feet of snow.

I ordered two sheets from grainger here in anchorage. We are flying in so size is an issue and I would like to roll it up to carry around until I have to use them. I think they will be great on the tundra also. I used one like this to haul a bear hide a mile or so on afognak last year that we were not able to carry. It was a life saver.
