Any one use a Subaru as a hunting buggy

Yep none of that shit happened. No Obvious smoke, no oil warning light ever came on. Still had a drain plug, oil filter, and I reused the empty cans of oil that I put in the motor to fill back up with used oil.
The only thing I maybe exaggerated was I may have had the car 2-3 months before that happened. I do drive fast on mountain roads. But I didn’t put more than 5k on the motor. I beat the shit out of all my cars and for a motor with 50k to perform like that is pathetic. And I am definitely not the first to get a lemon Subaru. So either you guys must be sUbaru fan boys. Or you just needed more detail.
Laugh all you want. I will take take any chance I can to talk about Shit about Subaru’s

Subarus also have an oil level warning light, like every other modern vehicle.
Pretty much all Oil level warning lights never go off until you have dangerous low oil levels, and have probably already done damage. And in my case it never did go off... huh...
The deleting of a real oil pressure gauge is yet another bad design of newer cars.

Dang I didn't notice. But a new set of rings on a 50k motor? Not a very good design. And thats all I am trying to say. If I dissuade one person from buying a Subaru Ive done my job. Subarus are best left to they're stereotypical users...
I hope yours goes 300k. If this was an anti-hunting forum I'd encourage all those idiots to buy one.

Loved my forester while I had it. Had Geolander ATs on it and followed a lot of pickups around in the woods and desert.
Couldn’t find my pics, but I’ve had an elk, deer, and bighorn sheep in it.

I’m fairly secure in my manhood so I didn’t mind having stick my head out the window so I could look up and talk to the other hunter in a lifted 4x4 truck.😂

Our Subaru it will go off when it's still on the dip stick.

You don't have to have nearly enough oil to create oil pressure. For example a 5.9 Cummins will register oil pressure with about 4 quarts. A third of what it needs.

Hahaha. Dude I had to hunt out of my wife's Prius C(the smallest Prius), for a week this season. I felt pretty silly going up some dirt roads with a bunch of truck hunters. I got a good laugh and I'm sure they did too.

Right on. I would still say oil pressure is more important than oil level. I know its very bad to only be circulating say 1 quart compared to 4. But as long as theres pressure the motor is lubricated.
My best friend and his dad are mechanics and have told me that the idiot lights come on too late on "most" vehicles. But Idiots dont pay attention to guages either...

F#@% Subaru. I bought a 2008 with 50k miles. Wanted AWD with good MPG. I replaced all the fluids. Drove it for a month. Didn't think to check the oil after only a few gas tanks. But I sure checked it when I heard the motor start knocking. That thing had absolutely no oil. Took 3 quarts before it even registered on the stick. And no I did NOT forget to add oil during the oil change. Sold that oil burning POS to a mechanic and got a beat up 4Runner.

I heard multiple accounts of those boxer engines burning more oil than fuel. My aunt included, who bought hers brand new and needed a new motor within the first 50k. I should have payed more attention to the bad press.

The only cars worth a damn are older Toyotas and some older diesel trucks. No way in F#@%ing hell am I gonna pay $50-80K for these new cars and trucks that are running on software. The dealers cannot even fix the problems they are having with the latest models. I know someone who has a brand new deisel F150, it just decides when it wants to run or not. They told him theres only one computer wizard in the country that may be able to fix the bug in that truck.

Yeah Oil doesn’t just disappear. Either you can see it all over the ground or burning in the exhaust.

Or he told on himself and did forget to fill it up all the way lol.
Actually not un common for these year range of subarus to consume oil, sometimes massive amounts, and NO smoke.

Hopefully they fixed their motors. But now I can only associate Subaru with anemic performance and people.

You need both.

Because insufficient oil level will get picked up by the pickup tube, go through the oil pump and create pressure.

But starve parts of the engine for oil. Which will cause damage.

Makes sense to me. Ideally I'd like to see oil pressure guage and oil level gauge in my cars. But it looks like touch screens and heated seats sell allot better than boring ole analog guages.
I dont think we disagree at all. All I'm asking is for something more reliable than an idiot light. Would you want idiot lights with no guages on an aircraft?

Oops thats actually how the F22 raptor is. All software driven, with idiot lights and automated flight controls. The pilot doesn't need to pay attention to anything but the sky.
I guess thats good for fighting and not getting in accidents while driving. But I value reliability above anything else in a car. I don't think idiot lights and software are conducive to 300K+ mile cars and trucks.

An oil level gauge would introduce a lot of complexity... But overall, nah... We don't really disagree.

I do not rely on anything but my own eyes and as for subarus if you don't have some mechanical nouse then you may have problems. I own 5 of them so i may be an enthusiast but my 5 speed hi-low manual will foot it with all other 4x4 that are not custom built hunt wagons.

Many forget that the only place in the world where a hunter is convinced they "need" a fully decked out $100,000 pickup with big wheels and loud pecker pipes to practice their craft is the old USA. If you look at the history of Subaru, as well as Toyota & Nissan, they were way ahead of their time building tough, economical, off road worthy vehicles & still are. I'm sure they have some junk out there, but the stories of 300-400k are pretty common & the old ones are tougher than hell.

I say if a guy decides to put his money elsewhere in his operation & opts to drive a 35mpg AWD wagon, more power to him.
