Never been great at spotting morels. Now my dad was great at it and we sure had fun in the spring. Still a bit early for my areas for morels though.

Now I do have pretty good luck in the fall finding chanterelle's. I've got some great spots for those and sure enjoy picking and eating them:)

I find them to be the best. Although after I was shown what comes out after a salt water soak, I limit my intake

Can you elaborate on this comment? I soak mine and have found bugs/ants and some sand, but that's why we soak them. Have you found any other reasons to limit your intake?

It's probably the bugs, especially the little maggots.

I've still got +2' of snow in the yard, and a minimum 2 months before morels start popping up I think.

My buddy told me today that a fellow we both know found over two hundred morels in the past couple days. My buddy is headed out in the morning. Stay tuned I let you know how he does. His wife has falcon vision and is a morels nightmare.
Now we need this non stop rain to move on.

I went out today hunting for some morels. It’s a bit early, but we’ve had a very mild winter and I’ve heard some other people finding them already. I hunted for about 3 hours and ended up with 33. None of them were giants, but like I said it’s still a bit early. Any of y’all hunt them? For anyone not familiar with these, you fry them up like chicken fried steak. nice!!! we don't have them on the coast, but I found my first Morels in Hells Canyon last memorial day. i'm a mushroom guy, and those are amazing!

we have a ton of mushrooms on the coast, just not morels... we have chantrelles, lobsters, boletus, sweet tooths, matsutake, and others like cauliflower mushrooms, and lots of different coral mushrooms, but morels are kind of the holy grail of mushrooms for table fare(matsutakes are amazing too)

I have to travel for morels, but plan on making a trip each year now.... they are very good eating, and a very fun mushroom to hunt.

soon i'm gonna go get some truffles, they should be around and ripe right now.... tomorrow is our last day of work for a couple weeks, so i'll have plenty of time on my hands... lots of hunting and fishing, but do want to get some truffles to make some truffle oil.... it's good on a lot of things

nice haul, i'm jealous!

My buddy and his keen eyed wife gave the woods a good effort today here in SW Indiana with no luck. Too early he declared.

I love hunting for mushrooms! I mostly find porcinis, cauliflowers, and oysters. Had a nice chanterelle haul this year. Wish I had the same luck hunting for animals

Finally got a small break from all the rain. I found all these in about 2.5 hours. They are overall bigger than those I found on Monday. It’s still early here, but I guess it isn’t too early.

Found a morel 2 days ago out walking with my son. He's a bit young to be picking shrooms with yet, so I left it. May revisit this weekend.
Personally, I pick boletes, chanterelles, lobsters, boars head, russula, chicken of the woods, and puffballs during deer season. After a day of hiking around lookin for blacktails in the rain, it's nice to get back to a truck camp with a grouse or two and some shrooms, toss some taters, onions, and carrots in some water, add salt, sautee some mushrooms and dump em in, cube up and sautee the groosen (plural of grouse, obviously), then drop that in. Simmer the works for a couple cans of beer, get into dry gear under the tarp, and tuck into that for dinner...life is good.

A good mushroom hunting pooch is worth their weight in gold!
My girlfriend let my dog get a good sniff of a morel last year and told him to find it. Immediately got on them without missing a beat. Problem is he will eat them if you dont catch him first. Hilarious to watch.
