Correct, S&B will retrofit the turret on any klassik. I had the turret installed on a capped-turret model as well as parallax adjusted to 250 yards. I could have mine sent back and fitted for the new 4.8mil turret as well, if I wanted. They charge $350, and turnaround was about a week, maybe two. Call them directly if you go this route, they are easy to work with. Or just buy one with the turret installed from the factory, just be sure you are clear which version you are getting.

As a note on the S&B 3-12 with elevation dial, I've had to use a 20MOA rail and zero at 200 for the rifles I've used it on.

Without the 20MOA rail it would run out of internal adjustment, leaving it unable to use the remaining adjustment shown on the dial.

25 MOA inclination was to much, leaving it unable to zero at 200.

The need for inclination could vary between rifles/ring height/cartridge. The 20 MOA has worked for 6.5 CM, 7-08, and .308 for me with 20-22" barrels.

How much elevation travel do you need? A Schmidt and Bender klassik 3-12 meets all of your requirements and is generally considered pretty reliable by the drop test crowd, similar price category to the tenmile, and has a good hunting reticle. The only real caveat is that it only has 4.8mils of elevation travel. That limits it to 600-650 yards and under...so depending on your use could be a non issue or a deal breaker.

Mine has the older 3.2mil turret which limits it to 500 yards or so for me. That's really not a limitation for me so its a non-issue in my case, I would buy another if I was in the market. I feel like the new 4.8mil turret and the extra 100-150 yard range it provides makes it a good viable scope for a lot of people.

plus you can get them new under $1500 at Europtic, which I think is the only us distributor.

27-30 oz scopes aren't really that light.
Even the maven at 26 is pushing it with this rifle im building.

I'm looking hard at that march F tactical. Even though it has more zoom than I want and not sure if I can get either a capped or locking windage but 20 ounces or 21.5 with illumination sure sounds nice

I believe this is everything the Schmidt Klassik is, without the issue of limited dialing. Can't tell if it has a zero stop

I've read a lot of good things about it and I took a chance and ordered a Klassik 3-12x42 for my Tikka T3X .300 WSM 22" barrel. I did confirm with Europtic that the one I ordered has the 4.8 mils of elevation travel. Do you know if 600-650 yds is still the limit.. even if I zero it at 200 yards? Would a scope base increase this range? Also, do you know if the illuminated reticle is still plenty visible on 3-4x in the timber?

I had a 4.8MIL klassik on a tikka, and zeroed at 100 yards I only had 4.2 MILs of dial left in the erector. It only has 10.8 MILs of travel

So you may need a 5 or 10 moa scope base to get you a 200 yard zero and full turret travel. You should be able to check a ballistic calculator to know what a 200 yard zero + 4.8 MILs gets you. I had the same intention and I think it was ~750 yards for a 6.5PRC.

I believe 4.8 mil is squeezing almost every bit of travel out of the erector, so if your zero is off-center at all in the wrong direction you wont get full travel. If so you may need a very short rail.—the issue may be finding a rail short-enough. Sounds like some people do need something, many do not. BUT regardless of what rail, the design of the turret limits travel to 4.8 mils, so its not possible to get any more elevation than this. What yardage that translates to is entirely dependent on your gun. 22” wsm I bet you get past 600 easy, if not farther. I get 500 out of a 20” 6.5creed with 3.2mil shooting factory ammo at low elevation. 4.2 gets me to 600, 4.8 to 650. So you’ll have more range.

The reticle is fine at lowest magnification. Not particularly bold compared to a regular duplex, but similar— it’s fine in timber for me even if it’s not ideal. You likely dont even need the illumination. Illum is just ok, the low settings are too low for anything other than full dark, high (daylight) settings have a lot of bleed. But for twilight use theres a couple mid range settings where its ok. Ive never needed it.

I’d definitely prefer to avoid using a rail. When you say 4.8 mil gets you to 650 on your 20” 6.5 Creed, does this account for a rail or no rail? I’ll be shooting at 8k feet and above.
