Any good dangerous game scopes availebel these days?

I put a Trijicon 1-4 Accupoint on my 375 Ruger and it worked well. Then we put it on my 308 Ruger and it survived a pack tumbling down a mountain a couple times with no loss of zero. It's a 30mm scope but a bit more streamlined than a lot of tactical style scopes. Can't see a reason to change it. Not sure the illuminates triangle is necessary but it's nice.

Is there any issue with the low end on the Leupold 1.5-5? Or is a true 1x on the low end preferred.

I got a German 4 green in both the 1-4 and 1-6 accupoint plus just finished moving some 3-9x duplex/mildot green to new owners.

For the larger dots of the 3-9x and 1-4x and the original fibre optic eyepiece of those same scopes yes ambient light does it all, one of my 3-9x was very dead on tritium and still go past legal shooting light (say 10-15 min past 1/2 hour after sunset or before sunrise) with fibre optic only. This original fibre optic window seems to let in more light than the newer flat top. See below...

My 1-6 German 4 green with the much finer center dot and the flat top fibre optic it's a dimmer fibre optic through the day and the tritium in this is much more powerful, I dunno if they put more in or what but in pure darkness the tritium glows blue through two of the 4 triangles in the flat top...you won't lose your rifle in the dark! But what I noticed with this reticle is the tritium starts to help a LOT in primetime, that reticle comes alive in primetime and then carries on as if illuminated by electricity at night. Yes you may need to recharge it every 10 years or so if you love how that works on that fine reticle with that flat top fibre optic.

Also curious if dangerous game always goes to bed at dark and is no longer dangerous? In case you had a mishap or ended up not back at the lodge for the night?

For op, consider also nx8 1-8x capped for dg set up. Even if you never use distance capability of higher mag reticle etc. the illumination and durability alone make it a candidate for the list.

I had a 1.5-4 Leopold for a while. I didn't think it was a problem on 1.5 but I didn't try to clear rooms or win 3 gun matched. I consider the Trijicon more reliable at holding zero which was why I switched.

I have not used the Trijicon 1-6, but can say that the 1-4 will take a lot of abuse. I've put those on several big bore rifles (.416, .458, and one .505) and they hold up.

there's a bunch more meat on the 1-6, 14.5 oz for the 1-4 and 19.2 for the 1-6, almost 5 oz of beef, it's a little longer than the 1-4 also, the 1-6 has a wonderful eye box and eye relief and way bigger fov with smaller black visual eyepiece ring while looking through them side by side also, I would doubt the 1-6 be any less tough than the 1-4 but the optics and eye box etc are a different league altogether than the 1-4, don't look through both or it may cost you...the 1-6 is about equal in these regards as the vx5hd 1-5...both of which in another price bracket than the 1-4, still really like the 1-4 though...good choice

I stockpiled a bunch to compare, so my German 4 is for sale, I'm in Canada though, mounted/shot a bit on 308, nib 1-4 German 4 green, nib vx5hd cds-zl2 firedot, nib vx3hd 1.5-5...any Canucks out there interested fire me pm, I went up to NF so can let some of them go now

not sure what it's like trying to send one across border but if it's a thing and people do regularly we can work something out, didn't find either accupoint in German 4 green easy to get up here(1-6 only comes in green, I think 1-4 also had yellow), maybe easier down there?

The NX8 1-8 is a great little scope, but it’s so compact you may need to put more thought into mounting options as action lengths get longer. And sometimes those options get pretty limited on older medium and big bore actions.

I think red dots make a lot of sense bc they don’t throw the balance off in a typically already porky rifle and they work fine at common engagement ranges. If nothing else they make a great backup option that doesn’t take up much space.

This past fall I put a 1-6 accupoint with the green duplex on a 7600 carbine I use for tracking. I dont have experience with dangerous game, but I do with fast-moving deer at very close range—its a great fit for that use. I also really haven't tested zero retention enough to say yet. What I will say with conviction is that this ^ post is spot-on about the eyebox—its a very easy scope to get behind, as good as about anything Ive ever used.

The 1-4 Accupoint is a fantastic scope. I hunt in low light dense rainforest with not a lot of sunshine. Never had a fog up or loss of zero banging around in boats, saltwater, etc.
