I did some research here and decided on a trijicon 1-4x24 german reticle green dot. I'm happy with it so far. I've tried it on a 223 and 30-06 Tikka.

No, likely off topic but responding to the post above. For the OP it shouldn't be a concern.

The tritium is only useful in scenarios where there is no ambient light to see any portion of the reticle, and where there is enough light to see a target, and where one does not need to identify what they are shooting- outside of war, I don’t know that the tritium is useful at all.

Oh I agree with form havring at one time 4 accupoints, the glow in the dark for civilian use is irrelevant. The non daylight fiber optic is very effective at last shooting light thru the brightest of days.
In Alaska it is legal to hunt all night. The only law states you cannot cast an artificial light to enhance viewing.

Very common especially for baited brown bear hunt to sit all night.

What scope would you recommend for max visibility and aiming on a dark object at night?

Looks like the Accupoints are recommended? Would a larger objective diameter help?

What about a simple red dot instead of a scope? Only adds an ounce or two and is very popular with dangerous game hunters in Africa 8D824412-BF07-4AAA-AC5A-5ED4AE806E8D.jpeg39020BC8-2B2A-4668-80E5-EDE6D349B0AC.jpeg53FD05F8-7D9D-46A9-A36C-9DE6BAEA80EB.jpegA06B249C-F356-4A0B-94A4-81B1242B2702.jpeg

I did not know that about hunting all night.

So, no question if it is dark or near dark and no ambient light the post will glow and act effectively as an aiming device. If there is ambient light or dusk the triangle is still usable as it will glow dimly based on the fiber optic color chosen, or be a dark shadow. It must be dark for the trillium to work. Very dark.

I don’t know what ranges you’re talking for bears at night, but assuming it’s over bait and under 100 yards the reticle is effective, nor would I be concerned with a larger object. At those distances I would have the power turned down to gain brightness.

I guess what is difficult to answer fully is if it’s dark and the animal is dark, even at close distances I’m not sure that is effective since it’s impossible to know where the glowing triangle is actually placed for precise lethal shot. triangle will be visible, but is it guts….

Not sure if a cyclops scope/gun mounted red or green is legal but I believe lightning up your target is needed. The accupoints still work for this, as have used the for coyotes in the dark. But I personally need to be able see the animal orientation clearly before a shot.

The kahles and the trijicons both look pretty sweet.

Are trijicons durable? Seems like people don’t talk about them as much as other brands. I know they make acogs and all that but are the accupoint scopes durable and long lasting?

You know I can’t help myself here but I find that photo of macho man holding a severed tail utterly stupid. Really? Woof. Off topic. Sorry
It’s a very old tradition in African elephant hunting. …..Donald Trump Jr. was bashed by anti hunters for doing the same thing. I don’t see it any different then antlers or taxidermy heads

The accupoint 1-6 is a sweet setup, it’s heavy for what it is but pretty durable. My only complaint and reason for selling mine is it has the ability to really throw the balance off on a rifle. It really would shine on a gun that has a little forward weight imo. My rifle balanced right at the front action screw with no scope and when I put the scope on it balanced right around the front to middle of the trigger guard. It felt awkward carrying it and it was just too but heavy for one handed carry. It made swinging the gun around feel weird too. This was not a dangerous game rifle, I would expect them to have a bit more barrel weight than my short barreled 308 so it may be a non issue.

I run a 1x6 Kahles on my AR with the SM 1 reticle, I bet it'd be a pretty good dangerous game scope simply because of the 1 power and reticle.

Yes. I'd say they're one of the most reliable options out there for the money.

Ok thanks, I guess this is the new thing I’m going to start researching. Appreciate the response.
I have not used the Trijicon 1-6, but can say that the 1-4 will take a lot of abuse. I've put those on several big bore rifles (.416, .458, and one .505) and they hold up.
