Anxiety induced drool in my mutt?

TLDR-dog randomly starts drooling a lot with no signs of nausea. Anxiety or something else?

Kind of an odd first thread (and stupid long) so forgive me. But my GSP Lab mix will start drooling excessively-drool dripping from the corners of her mouth-at random times.

It first happened a few years ago (she’s 5.5 now) and we thought it was upset stomach, something in a tooth, etc. It was very infrequent- 2 times a year and less severe. As years have passed it’s gone through stages of more and less frequency. We’ve asked vets with no real answers. Recently it has become a multiple time a week ordeal. We’ve done all we can do to find triggers and there are never any commonalities prior to onset. At least none that aren’t present when she isn’t drooling too. We’ve tried calming chews but they don’t help. Food changes, etc.

She used to go all day without seeing anyone (7-545) and if anything it was less frequent, but I now have a hybrid job where some days I’m here all day, others I may be gone all day.

Could it be some kind of anxiety? I guess the better question is, has anyone seen anxiety cause this in dogs?

There’s never vomiting or diarrhea associated with it. No panting, whining, etc. She will eat, play, run like she’s fine but 5 minutes later may lay at my feet shaking/shivering. Once the drooling starts, it typically lasts for hours.

Vet finally prescribed anxiety meds so they’re en route but I’m going to take her to someone else for a work up/blood work. I hurts me to think it’s some kind of pain she’s having and obviously can’t tell it. Love this mutt and hope it’s the “simplest” answer

Appreciate any thoughts or experience with this

I have an epileptic dog that drools when he seizes. The seizures aren’t always like the classic symptoms that we think of. Sometimes I’ll notice a big puddle of drool around him and you can see by his pupils that he is going through one.

One of my GSP rescues drooled a TON when I first got him. He is easy the most traumatized rescue I've had and his drooling was very much anxiety related. I took about a year, but it slowly tapered of as he settled into his new routine and pack. He still does it occasionally and honestly I don't hate it because it helps me know when he's getting stressed out.

Sorry, I don't know what's going on with your dog, but to answer your question, "yes" I've absolutely seen anxiety/stressed related drooling in dogs, specifically a GSP. Good luck.

I used to have a beagle that got a paw stuck in a metal fence. She was freaking out and drooling like crazy (and trying to bite me) while I got her paw out.
