I am a resident of Idaho. I have been hunting Unit 39 for deer for the past four years along with the other half of Idaho's population. This year I drew a either sex deer tag and a anterless elk tag. Deer opens up on the 10th and the elk tag opens up on the 5th, both go through the 31st. I am not looking for specific areas to hunt, more so trying to get a game plan going on when I should go. Opening day in 39 for deer is a absolute circus. Do you think I should wait until the end of the season to hunt both? Or go up on the 5th for elk and wait for opening day for deer? I typically hunt between 6000-8000 feet but it will depend on weather.

I don't hunt that unit but I'm familiar with public land hunting. I generally hunt as much as possible but try to find places that others tend to avoid (dead fall, long hikes, etc.). I have found success even near high pressure areas using that method. I hope that helps.
