Another sleeping pad question...

Ok, I still haven't pulled the trigger on a sleeping pad for this coming year. I had a BAIC that was comfy, but I didn't like the R value- I'm going to go to something with a better R value. I like most of what I see in the Xtherm. However, the Xtherm is a lot thinner than my BAIC was-- do most of you Xtherm users feel it provides enough cushion to sleep comfortably on? I liked the amount of padding the BAIC had, will I likely be disappointed with the lack of cushion in the Xtherm? I know at some point I'll just need to pull the trigger on one and find out for myself, but I'm curious to hear what others with experience with the Xtherm have to say about this...
Thanks much,
Scott

Can't go wrong with the X-Therm. It's 2.5 inches thick. How much cushion do you need? Your shoulders and hips will never touch the ground, even if it's not fully inflated. With a 5.7 R-value, combined with an actual weight of 15.6 oz. and Nalgene bottle packed-size, BUY IT.

I haven't spent any nights on anything thicker than an XLite or Xtherm but as a side sleeper, I have never had an issue with them. Granted, everything is personal preference but I have no issues with bottoming out on them. Where are you located? Is there a local store where perhaps you can try one out? If not, many online retailers run great sales and offer free or fairly painless returns so you can try one out and see for yourself.

I have spent a lot of nights in the X Therm. I am a side sleeper and haven't had any issues with it not being enough padding. It's Been a good pad so far.

Unless you need it right this second. Take some time to shop around and look for a good deal. I picked up an XTherm Large size for like $165 a couple weeks ago.

How are you guys finding the durability of the xtherm. I bought an xlite and used it a few times. While I like the warmth the durability has something to be desired. Even with reasonable precautions I ended up on the ground more than I would like. I have since gone back to my z lite, but wake up with a lot of shoulder pain as I am a side/stomach sleeper. I know there will be a correlation between durability and weight but are you guys having any problems with them going flat?

I have been using the XLite for the last few years without a problem. Did you check yours to see if you could find any leaks? You might contact Thermarest and see if they will repair or replace it. I can't really answer your question in regards to the XTherm yet though since I just got it.

Thanks guys! Hardcore, I have a buddy who also had problems with his x-therm. He's had to patch it twice. This concerns me a bit. However, there are tons of satisfied users, so I think I'm going to give it a try. I'm going to get the largest one. I don't need the additional length, but want the additional width- I'm not particularly big, but I move around a good bit, so a wider pad would be nice.

I'll keep my eye out for good deals on them. If anyone sees a good deal, I'd appreciate a heads up!

I sleep on my side and really like the Xtherm. I used mine for a full season (over 40 nights) and haven't had a leak yet.

Good luck brother, I'm in love with mine! Using it for the past two years up here in AK. Not sure how many nights I've slept on it but never been cold. Great pad, well worth the $189 I paid for mine!

I've got the BAIC and my son primarily uses it. I believe there's about an inch difference between the two and about 1.6 difference in the R value. Anyhow, I've slept on both, I'm a side sleeper and I prefer the xtherm.
