Another 10mm thread: S&W MP PC M 2.0 10mm vs. Sig P320 EXTEN Endure Comp

Did some searching, couldn’t find an existing thread. Many threads and reviews discussing the non performance center S&W and the regular XTEN. Trying to decide between a Smith and Wesson Performance Center M2.0 10mm and the Sig Sauer P320 XTEN Endure Comp.

Wondering if I can find some informed opinions here. I’m one of the weird people who prefers a thumb safety, but have heard some mixed reports about reliability issues with the S&W.

Probably not much help but I got an XD-M 10mm and my brother in law got an Xten. After shooting both back to back I liked his sig much more.

I think I’d favor the S&W heavily given all the bad press of recent on the P320 platform.

I think I’d be a little uneasy carrying any P320 chambered in the backcountry given all the accounts of holstered discharges. Enough smoke on the subject to trust there is a fire somewhere.

I have the S&W, wouldn’t get it again. I got it to shoot heavy bear defense loads. It shoots lighter loads fine but when shooting heavy flat meplate loads the magazine falls out of the gun. Internet searches say that the wide meplate is hitting the magazine catch and during recoil it causes it to eject. I have decided to use the lighter loads since I don’t want to buy a new gun. I think Glock would be the way to go, too bad the grip is so big.

I have the S&W, wouldn’t get it again. I got it to shoot heavy bear defense loads. It shoots lighter loads fine but when shooting heavy flat meplate loads the magazine falls out of the gun. Internet searches say that the wide meplate is hitting the magazine catch and during recoil it causes it to eject. I have decided to use the lighter loads since I don’t want to buy a new gun. I think Glock would be the way to go, too bad the grip is so big.

Good insight. The magazine problem is the issue I’ve heard about. I’ve also heard that if you replace the magazine springs the issue resolves.

Can’t fit my hands around a Glock.

In case others are wondering what the magazine issue has historically been with the Smith and Wesson M&P 10mm. Not sure if the issue has been fixed since… again, not sure that this has been an issue with the Performance Center version.

I have a FN510 sitting here. Haven’t fired it. Feels good in hand. Trigger is pure shite.

Can’t fit my hands around a Glock.

You could consider a 1911, plus it will have a thumb safety and they shoot like a dream. FWIW I prefer thumb safeties too.

Between the two preferred options Id go with the S&W as the magazine issue, if even present, is far more likely to get fixed under warranty than the uncommanded discharges of the Sigs (and far safer to deal with).

I have tiny hands and can still shoot a gen 5 Glock 20. For 10mm reliability, Glock, FN and Springfield is where you should start looking. Both S&W and Sig have had reliability issues with their 10mm. I tried hard to make the x Ten work and the mags just don’t have enough clearance for hardcast loads.

@rileybassman thanks. Good to know, guess I'll have to go get my hands on a Glock again and give it another shot. Took a look at the FN 510 Tactical, looks like a good option, but certainly pricier.

Still wondering if we could get some more people in here with first hand experience with the S&W Performance Center. Wondering if that mag issue is persistent.

I recently got the sig x10 comp. I have only shot a few boxes through so far. But as of right now I really like it. The factory compensator seems to help recoil pretty well, trigger is pretty good (for a striker fired), and feels great in the hand. The only thing i found i didn't like going with the comp model, not all parts interchange with the full size x10 or the .45 p320.

I enjoyed my x-ten but could only reliably run 200 grain hardcast or lower... the Buffalo Bore or double tap or other 220 grain hardcase would bind in the mags when filled to capacity. IME underwood 200 grain worked well. Enjoy!

I’ve shot both side by side and own the SW. I like the way they both shoot but I liked the grip and adjustability of the SW better. Mine came with an optic cut and suppressor height sights from the factory but isn’t the performance center model I don’t believe.

I agree with all of this. I'd love to get that x-ten comp, but those 320s seem to have serious problems with heavy hardcast stuff. They even had issues with Sigs own 180gr V-crown. I went G20.5 and also have small hands. They feel big at first, but after shooting it for awhile it now feels really good.

As much as I hate to admit it... large grips (within reason) seem to shoot as good if not better for me most of the time. Felt recoil is also better with more surface to distribute weight. Agree, several mags into the 20.5 and all the sudden you are just "shooting" and not thinking about it anymore.

Have you experienced any failure to feed or mag drop issues with your M&P?

I bought an M&P 2.0 10mm and it would jam every single magazine with heavy hard cast bullets. The G20 i replaced it with has never jammed.

As much as I hate to admit it, Glock is the way to go. If S&W would fix the mag issue I’d go that route. XTen fits my hand well, but as others have said big heavies don’t work well in it.

Also I’ve shot the DW Kodiak and it was amazing! Just a lot more expensive than the Glock.
