Has anyone hunted elk with these and have first hand experience? I used BE rampage last year but I can get a decent discount on the altras so I might try them. I would trash the components and use a podium hit and collar.
I went from the rampage to altra 166’s, I have not shot the altra 5mm. The factory 166 components are probably the worst I’ve seen (and that’s saying something) but the shafts are excellent so far. Consistency both in spine and straightness is good, durability is much better, but rampage are not a durable shaft, so it’s not a fair comparison.Has anyone hunted elk with these and have first hand experience? It seems like no one really has experience with them. I bought 5.0s now though.I went from the rampage to altra 166’s, I have not shot the altra 5mm. I don’t think it’s very risky to go with the altras, especially if you aren’t using their components, they will be a more durable arrow (thicker wall) and I would expect good consistency just like the 166’s, and will likely be somewhere between the rampage and axis for durability.
If you can get a good deal on altras, I would try them, I would expect them to be a really good shaft.
