All things .308 Win

my ten year old nephew tossed a couple of 168 TMK’s out of an SFAR at some fur in the last week. A couple at a young bull moose, and a couple at a small whitetail.

First pic is under the shoulder of the moose, second is a ruined moose hindquarter from a follow-up on the run, the third is a poor little deer that got turned inside-out.

All impacts around 2400 FPS.

That’s brutal. Mind if I ask, why TMK? I feel like there’d be less meat loss/damage with a hunting bullet. (I am aware of the small caliber match bullets being used in lieu in the .223’s etc)

Good question because I wouldn’t want to use it either honestly. Strictly perfect behind the shoulder shots only.

His father would not get behind the idea of him shooting something smaller. He’s not a big kid, and only as good of a shooter as a 10 year old shooting a 308 could be. He does good at the range, but I knew there was the potential for some less than stellar shooting in the moment.

My thought process was that if we were going to get all of the downsides of the 308 namely the recoil (not my idea), we may as well just throw hand grenades at whatever we were shooting in hopes to balance out some potential vital misses. Scorched earth.

That said, he is a stone cold killer and 100% delivered. We made the comparison to a machine gunner in Normandy the way he handled that moose off of his tripod.

Him and his father officially asked if I could load something that is a little more gentle on the animals tonight. Haha

Fair enough! Nice kills either way!

Could drive a VW bug through that shoulder!

Yeah, it is pretty ugly. I’m going to be skinning it tomorrow morning.

The kicker is, somehow the deer stayed on its feet and ran away. So my little stone cold killer put one where the sun doesn’t shine…

No pics of that yet, but apparently one of the hindquarters is basically only attached by skin.

Maybe I won’t load those things in my 308 😂

I’m shooting 165 Tipped Game Kings over 8208 out of my .308 Tikka. They are a good balance of accuracy and terminal performance. Good expansion but not as much meat damage as the Amax, ELDM or TMK. They’re back in stock after being unobtanium for a few months.

I haven’t shot anything but paper with the 168 tmk but in my rifles that bullet over 8208 is an absolute laser. The picture is 3 cold bore shots on 3 consecutive days with my 16” tikka at 100 yards. Mind you that is zero wind off a bench (bench being built in bar of our outdoor kitchen).
