All things .308 Win

My 10 round group opened up to around 1.75.
I think the recoil of my #8.5 .308 takes it toll sooner than it should.
I’ve got an XRS coming on Monday and I’m going to weigh it down some. See if that helps.

My first .308... Waiting for the SWFA 6x to come back in stock and for the .gov to reopen so I can get my AB A-10 that’s on order. May go with the SWFA 3-9 instead if the 6x takes too long.

Rounds 10-30 down the barrel at 100yd. Just cheap 150sp ammo to get my 100 rounds in before working up a load. Put 50x through it today and will probably be putting down the 6.5 pipe for a while…

I need a wood stocked 308 in my life, that will be a killer setup when all your stuff comes together.

I really like my ab a10 on my 308

Though not always successful, I try to do something with my .308 every day. 168gr TMK launched at 2730fps. I don’t think lack of expansion is an issue. Didn’t even bother dialing, just held 2 mils on the reticle. Anyone wanna guess the range?

485 if 200 zero

Don’t care if 100 yard zero, good shot vs buy lottery ticket that day shot 😂

Also, sd a little high for prairie rats.

17 yards haha, should have read further before replying, well played

10 round group today. This rifle also likes ELDX but I’m sticking with the Fusions for now. I’m average at best shooting .30 cal stuff but have been impressed with this rifle.

I got a lite and chopped to 20” out of box and it loved that 165 fusion, didn’t do 10 but it ragged holed 3 at 100 when testing 8 different factory loads and clear winner. It’s fast load too I thought at 2676 fps 5 shot. One of my kids used it for his deer a year or two ago and pinwheels the lungs at 70 and ran just about as far, fusions sure do shoot though. 😉 We had number of kills(~5) that year with little 6.5 Grendel 16” and 123 eldm factory that all drt’d so...shrug.

My Sako 90 308 at same twist and bought same timeframe sure liked 168 eldm white box and 180 fusion to clover 3-shots at 100, go figure, it didn’t like 150/165 fusion. Not sure why the Tikka didn’t like what the Sako liked and vice versa? Barrels same factory right? Voodoo. So try other stuff.

Your experience matches mine with a short barrel and 168s. I spent a lot of time behind a 308 and the 168s, a short barrel and anything past 600 test your ability as a shooter especially in the wind. I do think it can be pointed back to BC truing so I’m curious if that’s what you see.

When I want to shoot 800 plus with my 308 I go 175s as it’s only steel I’m hunting at that point. I’ve neglected my 308 enough. I’m taking her to the range with the 6GT tomorrow!
No doubt. Lobbin footballs. Easy to find the go no go. I chased .2 mil around for a bit at 600-640 and turned out my zero was the culprit. Doh. .52 g1 works good for me on 168 eldm at 2592 launch to there once I sorted zero and so chrony and published worked in end. But ~500 is in the easy go zone, 600 that wind only takes a puff to show you you better be only shooting at coyotes or perfect conditions if trying to fill a tag lol.

Love the footballs though. ~500 confidence plenty far enough for me. Will hardly ever use solutions for what I do now anyway.

Im curious what you did with your grip module?

I installed the vertical grip then cut and heated a the standard grip to attach to it.
Used a JB Weld 2 part epoxy to attach.
I wouldn’t hang the rifle off of the grip extension, but the 2 I’ve done haven’t broke off yet. 😀

Made the grip more vertical and added just a touch of width.
I’ve got small hands and this was my cheap solution for trigger reach.

How does this benefit you shooting? Not being critical, just curious.

Best factory gun made IMO. Now, if they only made them in about 10 other modern cartridge offerings…

They have a 6.5 CM sitting at my local Scheels that’s been calling my name. If I bought it, that would be my third. I have a 6.5 and a .308 already. Perhaps I’d pull the barrel to have a backup for my 6.5 and then throw on a custom barrel in something else…maybe a 6, 25, or 22 CM….
