Good morning all,
I literally just got back from Rocky sheep in the Willmore Wilderness Park three days ago with an outfitter mentioned in this thread. I am pretty disappointed with the whole Alberta process and animals. DO NOT GO TO ALBERTA FOR ROCKY unless you want to go 2 to 3 times or more. That will be 3-400K. You are better off buying a governors tag if you can afford it. 15 days on horseback and everything that goes with it. No legal Ram only half curls. Huge issue as mentioned is residents being able to buy a Ram tag for 80 bucks over the counter then add Natives allowed to hunt all year no restrictions. Public hunting area so other outfitters are hunting the same Ram you are and not to mention the bears. Day 3 had a 9ft grizz charge us and saw 12 more huge bears after that. There is no Grizz hunting allowed in Alberta! The place is a bad place to hunt, period! The list goes on for me with one bad thing after another but I won’t go into detail. We all need to stop buying these hunts, the outfitters need to make this a trophy fee hunt so they have some skin in the game! 100K is absurd for a maybe kill. Make the hunt 40K and add a realistic trophy fee of 20-30K, which is still ridiculous. This would have completed my slam so the sales of the outfitter worked on me to sign! Bad decision. I’ll keep putting in for my points and take my chances there before Ram hunting in Alberta. I know that there were 8 hunters taken to this area this season and only 1 hunter got a Ram. Horrible kill percentage. The two guys before me in camp were also trying to finish their slam and no Ram for them either! Not sure if you can personal message me here but if you can I will give more details privately!

Man that’s terrible, sounds more like a hunt than shooting. Where’s a guy to go to get one with a helicopter?

Not sure there’s a helicopter hunt out there for this but it won’t make game appear where there are none! Everyone that lives there is watching and shooting the legal rams long before we get there!

Bummer you didn’t get a sheep. How much research went into your hunt?

How did you find rokslide post hunt? Being gone 20 days with travel you probably have a lot to catch up on?

I researched but if you do not know what to ask you can’t be informed properly. Outfitter was recommended by two friends who shot rams with outfitter but, it was the outfitter that my outfitter bought the tags/area from after he retired! Yes lots to do here but that’s planned! As for Rokslide I looked up Alberta outfitter reviews so I could post something because I do not want the next guy to have the same issue I did. I will be walking the floor at the sheep show and at SCI in Nashville to see who speaks to these guys and personally explain the limited odds of what they are getting into. It is on no way 50%. Maybe 25% at best. 4x for Alberta Ram if you want one!

Wow, guy comes here after dropping what is probably a large amount of money, didn’t even name an outfitter, and you piss in his boot!

Are you OK?

Damn that sucks! I would hate to refer a hunt to someone and they have a terrible experience.

You mentioned 15 days on horseback, is that normal or did you stay more days to try to find a ram?

Did you see other hunters/outfitters or just heard about their harvest success?

I hope you at least were in some beautiful country.

So I guess I was a bit gullible responding to your comment in a nice way. There are always trolls I guess. Let me be clear. I’m not a newcomer to this game or hunting. I’ve gone home many times without the animal. Two Dall sheep hunts in Alaska all pack 12 days each and no sheep. I didn’t have anything to bitch about. Try not attacking the guys out trying to get it done. I’m giving info on a shitty place to go for Rocky. If you got better places step up to the plate. You’re probably an outfitter or close to one so you may have skin in the game to shut me up. Alberta outfitters need to offer a better product. Like I said. Put some skin in the game with a trophy fee. Also I live by those acronyms in your screen name but I don’t need to label myself that way to let the world know.

He’s been crapping on threads here for a few months now. As with all trolls, the best course of action is to ignore him.
Sorry about your Alberta experience.

Post the info here man. Will save lots of guy some headaches in the future. A review is a review and always good to put your experience whether positive or negative to help others decide whether they want to continue with a certain outfitter

Wasn’t trolling you. Sounds like while your hunt didn’t end in a kill, it was a hunt. Some of those helicopter dall hunts are well…not as much of a hunt.

That’s a string of bad luck. At least you’re not giving up. Lots of guys give up halfway through the hunt.

I didnt know my screen name was an acronym. I’ll have to Google it. Not surprised though, everything is an acronym.

Did you look at BC bighorn hunts? It’s seems the success rate is similar…

I didn’t think so at first till someone else made a comment. This wasn’t a Dall hunt. No I did not look at BC but will. Too many people are pushing Alberta for Rocky and while it may have been good pre covid it is not the place to go. It’s my opinion and we all know what that is! We all got one. All good here. Still part of the 3/4 club and looks like I will be there a while longer.

Thanks for the post. Sorry to hear about your recent experience. Sometimes knowing where not to hunt is more valuable than actually knowing where to hunt. I have seen a few different posts and reports about substandard Alberta bighorn hunts. I will continue to hire outfitters in the future but Alberta is penciled out for now. Happy hunting, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

Yeah. Of course the outfitters see us as a problem. LOL.

Alberta’s wildlife management is not good. Of many species, not just sheep. The sheep management is so poor, it’s almost hard to know where to start. Habitat management would be my first pick, but there are other easy to address items. And one is inflexible outfitter allocations.

Please post the outfitter name though it seems easy to figure out. Having honest reviews is important for everyone.

Im sorry to hear about your hunt and completely agree with your ideas mentioned earlier. All the guaranteed money on these hunts is not good.

There are a few rocky and cali bighorn hunts in BC. I also learned in the last year there were some Rocky tags in Colorado and at least some desert tags in NM on private land.

I wont be surprised to see reservation hunts and the last of the gov tags jump based on outfitter prices.
