Like naming unit numbers, can any thread that names a specific Alaska hunt be locked?

There are a lot, if I cannot post a thread asking for help hunting a lesser 48 unit by name, then why is it fair game to post about my state?

People can ask about generalities, mountain ranges, Etc without naming the hunt number. That, or unit numbers should be fair game too. The double standard is the annoying part. Due to the ban on discussing specific units I have become more conscious about what I post, and even edited some old post.

I have deleted 7 in the last 24 hours. When they come up violating the rules, I delete them.

However yesterday, a post about a state and hunting came up and someone reported it......we still are a hunting forum, GENERAL info is allowed. Unit numbers are not.

I can say I’ve definitely seen an increase in mods locking/deleting AK threads.

My gripe is the following which may or may not break forum rules. Example is haul road caribou. While you’re not posting a unit number you basically did by typing haul road. Same with draw AK range caribou. Everyone knows what you’re talking about. Those threads need to go away. The exception would be if they are wise enough to use the search function and bring up an old thread. Let those old threads live on.

Just my opinion…

Thank you.

I figure draw results just came out and everyone is excited. I reported one with a specific hunt number, another I tried to guide the guy to scrub. Then I started scrolling past several and go annoyed, but was afraid I was just going to be obnoxious by reporting them all.

Now that I know I'm not being obnoxious doing it, I'll stop being annoyed and just hit report.

Yeah, I scrubbed specific words from several old posts of mine. In the context of the thread, it is easy to guess what I'm talking about, but at least Google will no longer pull up my post for those terms.

I'll still help by PM on a case by case basis.

I do delete or lock stuff like that. Haul Road is kind of a household name for western hunting but I won’t catch more obscure area names.

Alaska is huge. Banning general areas that relate to a hunt sounds ridiculous. It would be like banning info on the Wasatch in UT or a question on the Big Horns in WY.

That’s a good example of a thread that I will watch before shutting it down. Often it starts as harmless “Looking for advice hunting (some large area)” eventually someone asks the op to narrow it down and then it’s “hiking in three miles from ___trail head” followed by “good camping on __side of ____mtn, just don’t blow the elk out of the basin”. Many times it’s two fng’s that don’t have the pm ability or understand what shouldn’t be said publicly. Many threads would stay open if followed this, Just because someone asks publicly doesn’t mean someone should answer publicly.
