My wife's uncle is a good sized dude. In his prime he was quite formidable. He likes to tell a story about a time that he and a few buddies were on a Canadian wilderness fishing fly in. They didn't pack much food, figuring they'd eat fish. Fishing wasn't so good, and several days in they were getting pretty hungry. One of them finally landed a good sized lake trout. While cooking the trout in foil on the fire, a black bear came strolling into camp; most of the guys ran off, but my wife's uncle stood up and scared the bear off. When asked why he didn't run off with the bear in camp, he stated that he was so hungry that, if need be, he was going to fight the bear for the fish.

with black bear most of the it works then sometimes it is not ... few years ago my wife woke me up (came back from nightshift) snd said the dog is barking like there is a bear and cats are not happy ... did not think two times went outside (remember handguns in the safe in canada lol) and saw that beautiful but still youngish feeding on berries and fruits (in a tree) so i called him and ask him to leave i had just a broom in my hands and not that much clothes on and the bear turns back a little looks a me and made a little noise like do not disturb me and that was it ... i went back home and waited for him to leave lol ... sometimes you can do something sometimes not that much and there was no need for the bear to be killed just for that.

but again compared to the op @Bob L. im a midget at 6.5 and half lol ...
