New here as well, just north of Montgomery near lake Jordan.
You guys must be like me and read Rokslide like it’s hunting porn. I can’t imagine hunting wide open spaces where you see frost before Halloween. I’m hoping for my first out west trip next year. If I don’t get drawn for anything, I’m going anyway to hike and fly fish. I’ll probably take my dog too and chase some upland birds.New here as well, just north of Montgomery near lake Jordan.

I’ve been seriously considering a trip to the Sipsey Wilderness north of Birmingham as a warmup. It’s a large area that’s gorgeous, wild, and his lots of pigs. I hiked it last year and had a ball.I can't imagine it either, I'm shooting for an OTC elk hunt in CO next September. Me and a buddy had a trip planned to hunt whitetail in Ohio this year just to get our feet wet before we go out west. Found out back in February that my wife is pregnant with our second son and is set to deliver the week were supposed to be on that trip. Looks like Ill be spending what weekends I can sneak away on public land around the house.

I hunted mule deer on Indian reservation couple years ago and loved it. Learned what habitat they liked and there’s about 99 less regulations to jump through.Going on a pronghorn hunt is a great way to get started hunting out there. Tags are pretty cheap and they are a lot of fun to hunt!
Welcome, from the Alabama gulf coast.
I've heard a little about hunting on the reservations. I've never looked into it though. Looks like you had a great hunt!! Congrats on your deer! I did my first mule deer hunt last year in Wyoming but struck out. It was a lot of fun though. I enjoy getting to go out to that part of the country.I hunted mule deer on Indian reservation couple years ago and loved it. No doubt it’s beautiful. So cool to look out and see miles and miles. Watched a nice 11 point with droptine chase a doe for about 2 hours. It was a whitetail so I didn’t shoot it but my buddy did. The only thing that sucks is the Indians can drive all over the land, which they do a lot of. But it wasn’t too crowded and saw About 20-30 mule deer a day. Saw about a 170-180 inch on private land. Biggest one by far I saw. Mine was right over 140I've heard a little about hunting on the reservations. I've never looked into it though. Looks like you had a great hunt!! Congrats on your deer! I’ve never thought about hunting a reservation. Gonna have to give that a hard look.I hunted mule deer on Indian reservation couple years ago and loved it. Learned what habitat they liked and there’s about 99 less regulations to jump through.
Standing Rock is where I hunted. If you draw a tag next year let me know and I’ll give you all the places I hunted.I’ve never thought about hunting a reservation. Gonna have to give that a hard look.

I hope your are right. I’m headed out for the first time this year. I may not be ready for the hills but by goodness the heat won’t get me lol. I’m ready for some cooler temps, maybe thanksgiving lolBeen hunting the west for almost 30 years and I can assure you that Alabamas "hills" are enough to get you ready. Just have to get a routine worked out where you get some 1-2 hour hikes with a pack in during the week and then go for a good 4-8 hr hike on the weekend. Mental toughness goes o long way too.
