Man that's rough. I wonder if we will see state border closures to hotspots.

I understand the philosophy but the problem is test results take so long to get back, they really don't mean anything. Unless they come out with mass testing that gives results in 48 hours, this doesn't look good for non-resident AK hunters.

Well, my son works with a kid who was at a party last weekend where a bunch of them caught the virus. Their boss sent said kid to the hospital to get tested yesterday afternoon. He found out already by 6am he was negative.

Everyone I know who has been tested has had results within 48 hours here. I’d suggest contacting your family doctor and explaining the situation and see what they can do for you.

Good luck boys, I actually decided last fall before all this BS started that I will be using up some lower 48 points for the next couple years. All these hoops will make the journey for you all the more memorable 👍

There are rapid test centers. I know of 2 places within driving distance of me who can get me results within 15 min... and I really didn’t look that hard

72 hours is possible. I was planning on going to a local site that has about a 24hr turnaround right now, and sending a sample out mail order. A couple hundred bucks is worth the insurance. My hope is to have test in hand, or on the outside an email while I am in the air.

We shall see.

Thanks for keeping us updated Kevin.

Just another hurdle/delay to come hunt. It’s worth it. Especially when you have to spend the other 350 days in the year in the lesser 48...

My GF flew to Alaska 2 weeks ago. She had to have a negative test within 3 days of leaving. She did it easily, our city is 25-30k people.

Steve....you're looking pretty smart by hunting closer to home. I hope it pays off.

100% absolutely there is plenty of opportunity for most to get a 72 hour result. My wife works for a major (area) health system and she's been in contact with a CNP to assure I can get a result in under 72 hours. I definitely can....today....but there is zero assurance of that in 5+ weeks. It mostly depends on regional or state testing rates and demand on that resource. If we don't see infection rates stabilize or decline there's going to be a continued emphasis on heavy testing with all the typical hiccups of time, materials, etc. My understanding is that Alaska decided to stop doing screen-testing on travelers due to excessive demand on available supplies and labs.

And yes....for the record....I do think the next potential logical step for Alaska (and other states) could be to lock out travelers from states with excessively high positive test results. I've said all along that almost anything can happen wrt the pandemic and subsequent social restrictions. Personally....I think we're at a point where Alaska hunts could simply get wiped this (remaining) season.

Picture Genetics has a mail order kit that guarantees results. I know a guy there and he confirmed they can do it.

I really don’t see that happening but then again I’m a glass half full kinda guy

All this testing stuff is based on today. Schools open in 3-4 weeks and these state mandated testing protocols are becoming more common. Time will tell.

We get results in about 45 minutes and people who are symptomatic test prior to leaving the ED.

Besides the fact that 72 hours is a long time and what stops people from becoming infected during that time? Just doesn't make any sense.

For those leaving from DFW trying to get testing done in 24 hours, I used presurgical testing company named resilient health care. I was able to get 16 boy scouts tested before running them out to Denali earlier this month. Results were 30 hours later and so we cleared through anchorage w/o issue.

Response times are variable, my friend who is a pediatrician, she got exposed by another coworker in the office who's kid had been in daycare. It took here 4 days to get results 1st week of July. It's all over the place as far as response time. The cases she is seeing in her practice are running between 3-7 days on test results right now. My dad's nursing home was running 8 days for results about 2 weeks ago.

Not every area has the same reserve number of tests stockpiled (some of which are FDA approved, and some of which are not... which is an entire different topic of discussion), and not every area has the same resources available for actually analyzing / verifying the results. It took my brother in law like 8 days to get his back in Georgia. My other BIL and his wife have it (NW FLorida). My boss is in the hospital with it (S GA). I probably know 40 people who have tested positive. Know of people who have died, but didn't know them well. Only know two well who have gone to hospital. One was in poor health was hospitalized and was released healthy about 10 days later. Other one is my boss. Not sure what his actual condition is.

My family came down with a minor cold 2 weeks ago. My wife works in a big hospital, and, since she had a cough, she needed to get tested. Her test results took 6 days to get back. In the meantime she couldn't work and was required to use up her PTO. Now she's going to be short on PTO for our fall plans. I also had to get tested and got my results in 3 days, which was surprising. 4-10 days was the norm from what I was told when they did my test.
