AK Moose/Caribou Planning and Gear Lessons Learned

Back in Fairbanks. Awesome trip all around. Saw caribou, grizzly, a white wolf, two monster magnum moose and snow geese. Pretty warm the entire time in the field. Only got below freezing two days. No bugs at all. Caribou moved on those two cold days but they were all on the other side of a impassable gorge/river. Alaska never disappoints as we still had a great time and got to see and experience alot. Will start posting some pics here over the next few days, add to the rolling gear list changes and list out some more lessons learned from gear, equipment and logistics back and forth to Alaska from the lower 48.

Bow saw.

Why not just take a full size one vice a Wyoming saw? Food for thought. Ive been taking a foldable pruning saw and a Wyoming saw the past two trips. Both times I could have used a larger saw. Last trip for beaver dam logs and logs blocking the creek. This time for campfire wood. Granted, you gotta have the wood to cut so NBR hunts probably a mute point.

Seek Outside Courthouse. This was the third trip with it and we loved it. 3 hunters and a stove very comfortably.20250914_070925.jpg20250911_190811.jpgIMG-20250919-WA0053.jpg

Front and back end logistics.

-We stayed in the same Air BNB in Fairbanks. Awesome is the word I would use. So much easier than a hotel due to garage space for packing and repacking for the small plane flight in and drying out things post hunt.

-Frontside weather delay in Cold Foot. Stayed at the Marion Creek campground just north of town and ate at the truck stop there.

-Backside stayed in rooms there at the truck stop so we could get warm showers then made the drive down to Fairbanks the next day.

Not having to rush around to make flights is so nice and allows you to take in everything at your own pace is so relaxing. I cant say enough reminders about allowing days front and back side for weather delays. 20250908_200738.jpg20250906_204934.jpg20250907_102657.jpg20250907_195213.jpg20250906_205004.jpg20250907_104735.jpg
