I have an old 1990s A-Bolt with the BOSS system in 300 Win Mag. It sucks to shoot it in the current configuration because of the noise, kick and muzzle rise. If I order a 9/16x24 to 5/8x24 thread adapter, will it be fine to put a suppressor on it? I’m worried that the alignment may not be perfect on the original threading and that I’ll end up with a baffle strike.

You will be fine, provided you get a quality adapter.

Are you sure it is 9/16x24 muzzle? The M70 with BOSS I have is 5/8x24.

I’ve got a late 90s abolt II in 270 with a boss .. I think used a 9/16 - 5/8-24 adaptor on it. No problems

For those that took the Boss off and put a can on: any reduction in accuracy? My .300 WSM shoots very good groups that I don’t want to lose, but the noise is tough. If there isn’t a noticeable change in accuracy I want to try putting a can on mine.

I recently bought a 9/16 to 5/8 adapter from Hughes precision. It’s for a 90s a bolt stainless 7mm. I haven’t used it in years so now it may have a reason to come out of the safe.

It will be fine.

Yep, 9/16x24. I have one on my 7mag medallion. But I use the CR because of the damn noise. Consider getting one of those.

Look at the back of my BOSS box to get your correct model for your rifle.

The real answer is, “it depends”. The can you put on it and the load your shooting are going to be the two biggest variables.

If you hand load, chances are you would just have to tweak the load a bit to find the sweet spot again. If you use factory, it may continue to shoot, you may have to find a new load.
