95 TMK in 6 CM

My 6 Creed doesn't like the 95's either, I have a remaining box of 80 if anyone wants them send me a PM and I'll give a Rokslide discount. Gone.

I suspect you are chasing your tail with the 95's. I lost interest in screwing with them, just not worth it when others fly so nicely.

COAL?

6 creed is seated with boat tail at neck/shoulder junction. 2.647"

Didn't measure on the 243, but can go back and measure.

6 creed is PVA standard, which I believe is longer than SAAMI.

243 is Tikka factory, and not all that long as I have to seat rounds deeper than the neck/shoulder junction.

Velocity?

6 creed was 3000 average for that 30 rounds. I was slightly below book max and had heave bolt lift on 4/30. (Side note, heavy bolt lift is significantly more obvious on the creed, with the 243 I could have bad ejector marks and not notice much on the bolt).

243 is averaging 2890 over 94 rounds. No signs of pressure.



I loaded up 10 of the 95 TMKs last night with 43.5 gr N160 and backed off the seating stem 1 turn (COAL 2.689"). I'm not expecting much, but figured might as well see.

Was going to sell the 95s that I had, but gave them a shot in a different barrel and they are like 10 in 1.3”

It’s got to be freebore with the 6 creeds.

The 95’s shoot great in 6x45, 6ARC, 6 dasher.

I got them to shoot 1” for 5 at .070” off lands of a cheap outlier 1:7 16” 6 creed barrel. But it was with 37gr varget 2850fps avg. that was COAL 2.745” which is about as long as you can load them. But I never messed with that barrel again after.


I don’t see any reason why the 243’s wouldn’t like them though.

I suspect you and everyone else that has said the same are correct. I have about 900 left, so figured 10 more rounds wouldn't hurt anything.

If the suppressor had not been loose when I got home, and/or I had shot a good group after the TMKs, I would not even try that.

Weather was a touch hostile to good shooting, about 20 F, 10-25 mph wind coming from 11 to 2 o'clock (measured 20+ mph on Kestrel, stronger gusts than that were dragging my mat with firewood on it).

I shot groups of 10 starting at top left and working down to bottom right. Conditions were worse for groups 3 to 5 and I could see the wind increasing my wobble zone to about 2.5 MOA.

This is my first time messing with N160, compared to H4350 velocity is a little disappointing, but workable.

From today's loads with N160.

95 TMK
2664 fps, ES 39.2 fps, SD 11.5 fps

108 ELDM
2644 fps, ES 28.8 fps, SD 7.8 fps

112 MB
2638 fps, ES 23.7 fps, SD 7.5 fps

Not because it matters, but because I'm curious; I'll retry H4350 at the long COAL and N160 at the shorter COAL and the original H4350 load to see if a loose can was the problem.

Well, looks like the barrel doesn't love the 95 TMKs, but the primary problem with the 6 creed groups was probably the loose muffler. Though the 95 TMKs appear to prefer being seated further out.

Seating them further out does appear to tighten things up.

Full target. Top right was shot last with 112 MB to verify the rifle. I increased COAL slightly to 2.701" on the TMK loads shot at center and bottom right.


15 round verification group with 112 MBs and H4350 at a previously used charge, had pressure (heavy bolt lift, ejector marks) on some of these, so need to back the load down. 2783 fps, ES 82.7, SD 17.4.


30 round group with COAL of 2.701" and N160 at 44.0. 2768 fps, ES 67.3, SD 15.2.


15 round group with the longer COAL and H4350 to see if powder type or COAL had more effect. 2944 fps, ES 93.6, SD 25.5.


10 round group with the original COAL and H4350 (dropped charge 0.5 gr due to some heavy bolt lift last time). Interestingly I still had heavy bolt lift with some of these, but not with the same powder charge in the 15 rounds with the bullet seated further out. 2970 fps, ES 61.4, SD 18.5.

Well, the 30rd group with N160 is far from bad, but the velocity is slower than I expected; you saved me from trying n160.
