It was a dark day for sure. As terrible as it was the 12th was perhaps our finest hour since Pearl Harbor. I wish it didn't take something as terrible as the events of the 11th to bring out the unity and compassion we had for each other on the 12th. The United States was as united as I have ever seen it in my 50 years on this rock.

we weren't united . we just shut up about our differences for one day.

most not so much out of respect but because they were glued to their t.vs hoping more might die. the 15th everyone went right back to hating each other .
now almost 20 years later half the nation couldn't even tell you what occurred on 911 and half of those who could , don't really care .

I'll have to disagree with your gloomy outlook. I saw people forget their differences and come together to help one another all across the country. I'm sure there were a few people who just shut up for awhile but I saw a lot more who came together and actually helped others.

agree to disagree.
I just don't believe in reminising over fiction.

it's been my experience that most people ,generally love to see others in distress, so long as those others are not among their own friends and loved ones . in fact, more often then not, they don't even mind seeing their friends and loved ones suffering.

I remember like it was yesterday

I was working next to pentagon and saw the plane hit the building. A co worker and I went to the scene to try and help evacuate .

Lost 2 friends from NYTP up in the towers

Weird day , the skies were incredibly blue and cloudless that day.

When clowns make callous statements about 911 the people that were personally affected get upset

My experience is that you must hang with a miserable crowd. Or things were very different in your neck of the woods.

all crowds are miserable. it is simply the human condition.
Maybe it's just your age that makes your perception that way.

For everyone I know they felt something after 9-11, but they don't generally enjoy watching a train wreck either.

It's a sad way to live life watching others misery so you can feel better about your own situation.

Give up the pity party man. There's many of us who had that one event change the course of our entire lives. Thousands sacrificed everything, and our country had an awakening to a new threat that became very, very real. Most red-blooded, patriotic Americans came together to offer what they could to help the victims and to fight the terrorists. Your negative evaluation of the human psyche belongs in a Starbucks, not here.

not many things i remember as clearly as getting dropped off at school and where we all got dropped off it was loud like normal, but getting closer to classrooms it did not have it hustle and bustle of kids out front chatting. Walking into english class everyone was sitting quietly tuned into the TV. The jocks, the clowns, the divas, didnt matter everyone was locked into the TV watching the news.

Im glad we are taking care of those first responders. We spend so much money in other places and yet forgot about those selfless heroes.

Thank you to the first responders out there who are willing to rush into events like these, I thank those who were there and helped.

I spent 19 days at Shanksvillse as a Pa State Mounted Trooper. Patrolling the perimeter and impact site. The sounds, smell and sights are forever etched into my memory.
