I have a pair of Zeiss Conquest 10x42 and Nikon Monarch 7 8x 42.

I am considering a pair of 56mm objective 8x to really gather in that last bit of light while hunting in the woods on tree stand.

Couple questions:

1) anyone own a pair of 8x56 binos that found there is a noticeable improvement in low light performance over 42mm objectives?

2) Is the glass on the Meopro line from Meopta serviceable?

I had a Meostar 8x56 that was brighter than my 7x42 and 8x42 binos (Meostar and Blaser). Not night and day brighter but it was definitely noticeable in deep forest at dusk. In more open areas at dusk you could still see a difference but it was not as noticeable. The increase in lens size makes a big difference if you are comparing similar models and quality when all other things (glass and coatings) besides the diameter of the lens is the same.

The 8x56 Meostars were very nice. I personally liked the Meostars better than the Conquests. I have never used the Meopro so I can't comment on them.

Good quality glass trumps objective size. The human eye can't use much more than a diopter than 5 (exit pupil size). A quality set of 8x42s will blow the doors off a lesser quality pair of 8x56's.

Most will be surprised to find that most big objective binoculars don’t outperform a 42mm during full daylight - due to limitations of what the human eye can absorb. However, low-light dawn and dusk situations is where that big glass comes alive with all of its light-intensifying glory. Yes, in binoculars of equal or near equal quality a 50 or 56mm objective will be noticeably brighter in low light.
