I'm hoping to find some solid factual information from people who have experience with the 7prc or 300 prc. I certainly am no expert but have gone down the rabbit hole of precision shooting. I have calibers and reload for 233, 6creed, 7rem mag and 338 Edge. I have documented performance in the field for 4 years now and have reached a point where I'm trying to fine tune my setups. I'm ready to rechamber my 7 rem mag which has the throat pushed out. I'm trying to decide between a 7 prc, 300 prc or 300 win mag with the throat pushed out.

My 7 RM I have always felt was a bit finicky. Just over time it was clear that setup was not as forgiving as my creedmoors or my edge. My 338 Edge shooting 300 grain bergers @ 2900 has always been forgiving to load for and shoot. However, the gun is just not practicable for most hunting situations. I have enjoyed my creed suppressed; however, it is too light of a caliber for taking longer shots on deer or bigger game at distance in my opinion. I have been able to shoot several 7prc setups with 22" barrel suppressed. I have been impressed with the performance especially using factory ammo. I'm also drawn to the forgiveness and performance of the 30 calibers. Hence my interest in either the 300 prc or 300 WM.

My setup would be a 20-22' barrel suppressed. I'm fully aware shortening the barrel on any magnum caliber is somewhat counterproductive regarding performance. However, where I shoot/practice/hunt running suppressed outweighs the loss in performance for my situation.

Any input or experiences people are willing to share with a similar situation would be appreciated. Thx JJ

How about a long throat 28 nosler cut to 20”? It would give you excellent performance in a short package! The 180eldms are killers.

I’ve had great luck with the 300 PRC and short barrels. I run a 22” proof sendero. My load of H1000, ADG Brass, Federal 215M pushes a 215 Berger at 2930 FPS with exceptional accuracy. A 24” barrel might get me to 3k FPS, that’s not enough difference for me to matter. The shorter rifle handles much better.
My hunting partner runs a Seekins Havak Element in 7PRC, 22” barrel. I worked up a load pushing 180 Berger VLD’s at 2860 FPS with ADG Brass, federal 210M, and unfortunately RL26. RL26 is impossible to get, without it the rifle is 120 FPS slower. It’s also a really accurate rifle.

What does "longer shots" mean to you? The 6mm Creed with a 108 ELDM starting out at 2850 will be good to around 700 yards. That is pretty long.
