7mmx338 wildcat

I would look at a burn rate chart and see where the 4320 sits. Then try some of the powders that are close to the same rate. Quick google search will reveal the burn-rate chart.

Here's an issue though. Mr. Lombardi used 4320 powder in it and that powder is no longer available. Can anyone recommend a suitable substitute?
You might check the rifling twist. It could be a 10 twist and not suited for heavier bullets. 4320 is indicative of lighter bullets.

I think that era of hunting/varmit rifles are visually pleasing.
I've got a 257 AI the needs fitted to it's stock from that era. It's got a tiger maple stock. They had a lot of slick guns back then.

I will check the twist. He shot 140s out of it and that's good enough for me and deer

Man, that's awesome.

Any more info on the cartridge? What's it based on? You said 338, is it a 338 WM?

Beautiful, congratulations. That rifle will always be special for you. It reminds me a bit of my .257AI built on a small ring 1910 Mexican Mauser. It’s a tack driver.

My buddy who helped broker the deal said Mr. Lombardi also had some 7 rem mag cases too and he thought if I ran them through the forming die they'd work. Will have to see

For the load development, starting with 7mm mag data should be fine. If you have a spent case, measure the h2o volume with that or if you know the load data for the 4320, post that and you can get some input on comparisons.

Pretty sure he used 70 grains

Now that the rifle is in hand I’m curious who made the receiver. The style of bolt reminds me of a post war commercial FN.

Congrats OP on the rifle, he wouldnt still have the truck too would he lol? I love the older guns, keep it, shoot it, and hunt with it for the old hunter. That is just awesome.

That was actually another guys pickup. Harold Tweedle. He was a taxidermist and a darn good one as long as you got your mount back...

Well after some mishaps involving my Grandpa getting stranded 35 miles out side of Amarillo Texas due to his transmission line breaking and him deciding not to go to California after that, I finally received my new rifle.

It is a FN Mauser 98 action that is Post War. Slicker than calf snot on a door knob. My other box of goodies with the scope, does, brass and bullets amongst other things should be coming tomorrow.
