I don’t want to sound like a smart a**, but why not just buy the tikka ss lite in the 6.5 creedmoor, both cartridges pitch similar bullets at similar velocities. If you don’t like the stainless creedmoor, swap it for the 7mm-08 take off.
This is the route I would go if I did it again. 6.5 creed and be done or swap it but there's not much difference in the two at all.

But I would be more than happy settling for a tikka stainless chambered in 6.5 creedmoor vs a savage anything chambered in 7mm-08.
I don't disagree either. That said we can help him with a 7-08 if that is the route he wants to go. :)

lol not at all man, totally legitimate question. As to 6.5 vs 7-08, personal preference. Been wanting to play around with 7-08 for a while and just haven't developed the same desire for the 6.5, nothing against it. Also, if going this route then I figure why not get a different enough caliber so that if I don't end up wanting to sell the other barrel I can set it up on a different action and not have more or less two of the same rifle.

Front range? I got the tools to swap barrels is why I was asking.

Tikka's come in three different bolt faces depending on the caliber. A 7-08 shares the same face with the 243, 22-250, 6 creed, 260rem, 270win, 308, 30-06, etc. (just naming tikka calibers off hand that I'm aware of with a standard face).
Yeah, up in the Loveland area actually!

I agree, I have always been a 7mm fan. I load for 4 different Tikka 7-08's and they all shoot excellent with the same exact load. Makes it super easy for me!

There ya go. :) Anyways if you're gonna order a gun in I suggest checking out locked and loaded "email for price" it'll clock in below that euro optic price. I've ordered from them before they're good to go.

If you happen to go with a 1:8 243win I'd have interest in the barrel potentially if you planned to sell it.

I’ve been wanting a 1-8” 243 and keep telling myself to hold off, now here you come with a deal on a left handed one…. Damnit this forum can cost me money.

I have a blued tikka. I’ve owned it 11 months. Probably only wiped it down with an oily rag twice. No rust. If it got soaked, sure I’d wipe it down when I got home and got it dried out. I think the bluing of today is more durable than the high gloss bluing of years ago, but it isn’t near as pretty.

Hell yeah, thanks for the site suggestion and that may just be the way then. If you have the means to swap the barrels and have interest in the 243 I could go that route and we could work something out if you are able to make the switch. I can keep you posted as I get this sorted over the coming days and we can go from there.

Buy whichever makes sense for yourself financially but if you do end up with the 243win I'd have interest. Yeah I have a barrel vice, action wrench and the go gauge for the 08’ cartridge family to check headspace.

One fyi just so you're not caught off guard incase you have OCD or something. ;) The barrels can swap between actions due to tolerance (hence we can buy prefit tikka barrels) but the clocking of the threads varies. IE the caliber engraving can land anywhere in a 360deg orientation.

Lol good to know, that would likely annoy me for a little bit but I'd get over it

I have 3 lefthanded blued Savage's. One is 26 years old. Zero problems. 95% kills one shot. Have never had to track an animal. Buy the Savage. Spend the time shooting the Savage versus working on a rifle.

I went through this and borrowed the tools off of here to swap barrels and have no complaints or regrets if you really want a 7-08.

Barsness once mentioned you can help a blued barrel become more rust tolerant if you wipe it down liberally with a good oil like butch's gun oil, right after shooting when the barrel is still hot/warm. Somehow helps the oil get into blued steel pores, something to that effect.
I started doing it but don't have any tests to prove one way or the other.
