I haven't threaded my 7 PRC yet but on my 16.5 inch 7mm-08 didn't bother me at all like 22 magnum. It's chronographed 2756 so be close to that. I know my 300 PRC with 26 inch barrel made me laugh it was so quiet no protection then either. I'll wear protection at range just because but hunting I've never gotten a slight ring. Probably depends on your suppressor too. I have a YHM Resonator R2

Will use muffs on the range but not when hunting, always carry plugs and use them if i get a chance. Its at the gunsmith atm cant wait to get my hands on it.

Are you shooting the 16.5" inch 7mm-08 and 26" inch 300 PRC suppressed or unsuppressed?

For everyone that has 7mm PRC in 18" to 20" inch barrels suppressed, how is the noise/DB with the suppressor? Is it quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection that it will not cause hearing damage?
I still wear ear pro at the range just to be safe. No reason not to. About the only thing I don’t do that with is 300blk or 22lr. When hunting I don’t mess with it.

It just sounds like a suppressed supersonic rifle imo.

Suppressed. I'm ruined by a suppressor I won't shoot any of my rifles without one. Hopefully making it to gunsmith one day this week to cut my 7 PRC to 18 for suppressed. The short 7mm-08 ruined me for a long gun hunting for in the woods or medium ranges.

Anyone tried the Federal amno? I read a article a while back about Federal using Alliant powder which makes sense and they would have first dibs. Jw if it's velocity is probably closer to true. Found some 155s terminal ascent says 3100 fps

I would be interested in seeing how the 18 inch barrel data compared.
As soon as I get mine back in a month or so I'm gonna chrono the factory ammo an handloads. I got 2810 with 180eldm 22 inch barrel. Think I may pick up Federal to try to. I'm sure their still using Alliant powder. I'd say Hornady is probably staball HD looks like several companies are using it in magnums now

very good looking rifle!
I agree with @IrkedCitizen on the 162 eldm. I’d also avoid the Barnes for a couple reasons, one being that monolithics like velocity, and you’ll be lacking in that department, particularly once you get out to 5-600 yards.

The 162 eldm would be my choice between the 2, without a second thought.
I thought ELDM bullets were for shooting paper and steel not game??? can you point me to somewhere I can learn more about this?

I was averaging 2750 the first few shots with the 175 Precision Hunter. After 70ish rounds I am sitting around 2762 with an SD of 17. Still hoping for additional velocity as my barrel continues to speed up. I think you’d get better velocity consistency due to more complete powder burn in a 20” based on what I’ve seen with my 18” so far, but the 18” is very convenient with the suppressor.
Do you try to reduce SD with seating depth changes or is that current SD "good enough" for 600 yds?

I don’t shoot factory loads typically but an sd of 16 wouldn’t scare me away at 600. My handloads for this rifle are at 6.4sd so it’s been a non issue

Wonder if Proof will eventually make a 18 or 20” prefit. Currently have a 22” but may move down in a few years when I shoot out this barrel.

I would be happy with that SD also. I don't have any H1000 but will keep my eyes open for it. Here in AK primers and powder are still somewhat of an issue in obtaining without going thru lots of searching or paying to barge it up here, slowly... I haven't seen Rotumbo either. I have a stock of RL19, RL 22, H4350, Superformance, and IMR4831. Enough large rifle primers but only a few hundred magnum primers

The ELD-M has been coined the ELD-MURDER by @Ryan Avery and I would agree.

I switched to 162gr ELD-M in my 7RM starting in the 2021 season. My previous bullet was killing animals but not to my liking so I decided to change it up. My rifle has killed three elk and one mule deer since the switch. All of them were one shot kills. All were dead in seconds.

2021: 200 yards quartering towards. Entrance right side behind shoulder exit left side behind ribs. Did a 360 and fell over in tracks.

2021: 505 yards broadside double lung with exit. Golf ball sized hole through and through. Went 40 yards down hill.

2022: 505 yards slighty quartering towards head to the left. Entrance left side front of shoulder in neck CNS no exit. POA high shoulder and POI about 6" left of POA. Stumbled maybe 10 yards. You could say I got lucky on this one but he died and quickly at that.

I am 6'6" 365lbs for reference.

2023: My Sister's turn. 330 yards broadside double lung with exit. Golf ball sized hole through and through. Went 30 yards.

Sample size is small but results are pretty good.

The 3rd one didn't record so I said screw it an shot 5. Got a new can an wanted to try. Savage Apex 180 ELDM 2975 on box got 2810 with 22 inch barrel unsupressed avg and I got 2679 avg with 18 inch barrel an Polonium 30 suppressor. First shot was right at 2700 fps. So not apples to apples but...lost lil more than I hope but I'm going to reload 162 ELDMs. Still may buy box of federal to try. Maybe also try just flash hider then with other suppressor idk. Lost average of 32.75 per inch bout same trajectory as my 7mm-08 but....over 2200 ft lbs of energy with 7 PRC compared to over 1600 ft lbs of energy with 7mm-08 per Hornady app.

Are most of you going with Carbon 6 for barrels? If not going Pre-fit, how much are your gunsmiths charging the fit a blank on your actions?

I've been looking at Proof for a 7RM to 7PRC conversion but they don't make a 20" pre-fit which is disappointing.

I went with a 20” Bartlein #13 in 7 PRC. $800 for the barrel and $310 for install/chamber.
