Sadly, I think you may be correct, the acquisition has done nothing but raise prices. GA Precision built many of their rifles on Defiance actions, they have since switched to Impact. Custom builders can only sink so much into and action and still make any profit at all.
Me thinks the recent objection to Defiance amongst professional rifle builders probably stems from the current ownership than it does the price increases. The prices aren’t that far off of what else is available from the likes of Impact and Terminus, etc.

Could very well be the case, he bought McMillan but I still order from them with good luck so far. The across the board price increase doesn't help either and maybe they just don't want to deal with BB!

This is my first dealing with Preferred, and it has been great so far.
I have read on here a couple posts about a few barrels and issues, and before I ordered I asked Marshal Sip directly how many barrels have come back. The answer was 2, and they immediately made it right and provided a new barrel. Given the thousands of barrels these guys are producing, 2 is not a significant number to me.
As far as the rumor mill and or stories that seem to grow on the internet, you have been around long enough on here to know how that can be.
I pressed further about this issue, and was made aware that Preferred Barrel sells blanks to all types of customers-individuals that want to thread and chamber their own, and gunsmiths-good and bad. If a person uses a poor gunsmith, or makes a mistake on their own, it would be easy to blame the blank. In this situation, they have had several barrels come back after being butchered by a smith. I was told they won’t name names and still helped make it right.
As far as the change I referenced in my initial posting, it was how they began making all their own blanks in house. This was because consistency was not there, even from the same sources. They now control every variable in the process and it has exploded their business. They are turning out way more barrels than I had thought, and to and for big names in the industry.
If you or anyone has any questions or concerns, I encourage you to call them. I was inundated with so much technical info that it went well past my end user/shooter brain.
These guys are machinist at heart, and don’t have any biased on caliber, action or manufacturer. I like that. However, I reserve final judgement on accuracy.

On a similar note did you ask them about the 7prc chambering options the have? They have 7prc and a 7prc, .233 alpha reamer
Does anyone know the difference??

Initially I guessed the Alpha reamer had more freebore for sticking heavies way out, but looked up the SAAMI spec and the freebore dimension is .2333" to start of leade taper, if freebore dimension is based on the end of neck taper and start of .2846" cyl dimension. Searched alpha reamer and found the website linked, guessing the Alpha reamer is just way tighter tolerance held. Interested to hear if that's correct or not.

Built something very similar in a 300prc. Where are you currently on weight? What optic did you land on? Suppressed? Muzzle brake?

Here’s my specs

300prc 22” proof sendero light
Defiance anti nitrided with barrel
Xlr chassis (need to swap out for magnessium)
Nightforce Nxs 5.5-22x50
Nightforce rings and 20moa rail
TBAC 338 ultra (still waiting)
Bix n andy tac pro single stage

My main issue is weight. I drank some koolaid and bought the NF scope, it’s like a brick. I’m at 10lb 10oz with the can and that’s just too much to carry. I’m hoping the xlr magnesium saves me a pound and I can be sub 10lbs.

I’ll be following along! Excited to hear more about it.

Just saw this-

I'm just over 6 pounds, no optic. As far as scope, I have a few that I am going to try out on this rifle. One if a NF, a Mark 5 Leupold, and I even picked up a SWFA to see what all the hype is about.

As soon as I can land some ammo, I'll be shooting and reporting back.

I can tell you from other rifles I own, NF scopes are bricks, but I love them and ignore the weight due to dependable performance. I also have played with quite a few Mark 5's and the ones I and my cadre have used have been good. The SWFA is ugly and as far as glass, I'm not impressed. But I am critiquing in based on more than just a hunting rifle eye, ours get used for observation and identification as well. I'll do a write up once I am able to shoot. Either way, it'll be fun.

Doc-

I did not. I am an end user trigger guy, not very versed in the fine details of barrel reaming. I can say, give them a call, every time I did, it was a ton of info.

Receiver (Defiance Ruckus GA Hunter) and barrel (Proof carbon pre-fit at 22") in hand, just ordered stock from McMillan, told 4-5 months (last several were 2 months or less). Looks like this is going to take a while but not in a hurry, to hot to shoot in summer in FL anyway plus have others that need range time.

Other components to include Trigger Tech trigger, Hawkins M5 Hunter DBM, Leupold 5HD 3x15 (pulled from another rifle) and Harvester EVO suppresser (bought but in ATF jail for now).

Jim-which trigger tech did you go with? I've used the diamond before, happy with it so far.

TT Primary, simple but good, my third so far, all my builds are hunting rifles. First one had a "hitch" in the safety, not bad but annoying. Wrote TT CS and they sent me a new one right away, no hassles.

Excited to report I have ammo to finally work with. I’ll be putting a scope on and working up dope in the next few days, hope to shoot the CBC. @Unknown Munitions got me squared away.

Looks like $2-400 over an impact or lone peak which seem to be preferred by many so why would someone pay more for an action that doesn't seem to be preferred?

I'll be running some hornady 180 ELD-M's over a chrono this weekend. I had a Seekins Havak barreled by seekins with a 22" tube so we'll see how it stacks up. Between bipod adapter, rings, suppressor, and scope its weighing out at 10#

Starting my 7 PRC build off a terminus Kratos lite and prefit 22” proof CF barrel. Leaning toward a TT special trigger. Up in the air a bit on stock. I like the MDT HNT 26 but it’s pricey and kinda want my hunting rifle to look like a hunting rifle (vane, I know). Otherwise looking at Allterra or AG composites. Would be interested in Manners too but the lead times are killer. Bare gun is just over 7 lbs if my spreadsheet is right. Scope is gonna be a NF NX 4-32 though I’m curious how it’ll fit on the Kratos. That’s what’s I’ve got worked out so far; just hope everything gets here in time for rifle season…

Take a look at the Mcmillan nimrod that Dallas Lane designed. Unknown Munitions is the only place that has permission to sell it besides Lane himself. 30oz.

If you scroll up just a bit you'll see my rifle with a McMillan Game Hunter, took 5 weeks direct from McMillan. The "paint only" stocks seem to be a bit faster in line than the carbon and molded in options that some people prefer.

You may have a bit of trouble with that scope in mounting, I build mine on the Defiance GA Hunter with integrated pic rail and the scope just barely fit and not ideal. You'll need to pick your rings, put them on the receiver and see how much tube you will need to bridge the gap.

Circling back on this, I love the rifle, very impressed with the 7PRC round. I killed a bear in Idaho with it, and enjoy shooting it. I am impatiently waiting on brass to drop.

Has anyone made it to load development?
