7mm Backcountry, does BC stand for best choice or bad cartridge? Let's test it!

also side note, Yesterday I ordered a 7mmBC 16.5" Evoke rifle and have ammo on the way for 155g, 170g, 175g options.

Will post here what I find personally with that combo. Will be running it suppressed obviously, but will prob be a week or 2 till I get everything, set it up and then go shoot

already does that with the 6.5 PRC. I get 2750 with my 18" suppressed PRC 140g accubonds. slightly higher on the 127 barnes.

If you are doing a 6.5BC it would have to be higher than that to push it over a tried and true 6.5PRC.
I really think that a 6.5BC would have to at 2900 to 3000 fps from a 16" barrel to really get people excited about it. That would put it in the 3100 to 3200 range in a 20" barrel. A 156 Berger at 3100 fps would be nice to see.

If I had F you money, thays exactly what I'd be doing. Making smaller midsized cases with the peakalloy tech in smaller calibers sizes. I'd even pay some 5 year old to come up with a better name than back country.

6mm Triceratops!

Isn't shellshock making 6.5 creed cases? That sounds like another possible option on the horizon.

I think a 6.5BC would likely generate 2900-3,000fps from a 16" barrel. Those numbers are consistent with what a 277 Fury can do with a 140g class bullet and a 16" barrel. The higher pressure of pressure has a benefit in short barrels.

I doubt a 6.5PRC gets close to those numbers. Furthermore, I would expect it to have lower recoil than a 6.5PRC since it would use less powder to achieve that velocity.

Barrel life would be short.

barrel life has little to do with pressure (hornady talks about this a good bit) and more about powder being burned or not being burned, at least thats what Hornady and Federal claim. SO if thats correct something like a 6.5BC wouldnt really have any less a barrel life then the PRC in theory

Even federal CLAIMS the BC barrel life should be in the same range as a 270 caliber gun.
