Even 257 Roberts would be better than 243. Very mild recoil, good ballistics, a good fit for antelope-deer sized game.
OH yes it is …. don't care about "mpg" or any number crunching you wish to do, IF you had ever compared them side by side in the field you would quickly enough understand I have, although my 243 AI is a stellar longrange varmint and predator round if I want to reach out and touch a speedgoat or deer I'll always grab the 25.06 and a box of my 110gr Accubond handloads"are you driving them or shooting them ?"
I guess you didnt get my reference to bullet efficiency. Point is, a 25-06 is not a step up ballistically from a .243.
6 creedmoor would be sweet

IF a 6mm Creed is "magic" why wouldn't a 6.5 Creed ?I agree. Keep kids and girls in a 6mm caliber. 243 or 6mm creed. Keep the rifle weight up and good recoil pad and they wont need a muzzle brake.
OP started this thread for HUNTING cartridge …. 6.5 CM is as good a "starter" round as your gonna find, I know that from experience and 6mm pales in comparison available projectiles are concernedI don’t think the 6 creed is magic. It just has less recoil, muzzle blast, powder burned and nearly the factory options as the 6.5. Look at PRS where the game is recoil management, almost every high level competitor is shooting a 6mm of some flavor and many are going down to dashers bra’s and br’s. For kids, especially girls, recoil and muzzle blast should be the single biggest consideration IMO. Gun fit second.
