7mm-08 to .243 or .308?

But not really sure what you’re looking for? I don’t think anyone has had said you must buy a 6.5.

Nobody is looking for anything? Nobody ever mentioned anything about anyone buying a 6.5, either? Total non-sequiturs.

I pointed out, since it is pertinent to this thread, that selecting lighter bullets for 7mm-08 will come close to exactly duplicating the ballistics of one of the most popular hunting calibers out there.

Got you. It seemed like you were going down the “I hate Creedmoor because it’s popular” road.

Nah man, Creed is a great round. Just interested to hear the experts' takes on how much overlap there is between that and 7mm-08, since I don't have a ton of experience with the former.

Basically, seems like Creed has a slightly better ballistic coefficient and sectional density, while 7mm-08 has the option to push larger projectiles. Feel free to add if there's anything I'm missing or we haven't hit yet.

140gr 6.5mm bullets are about the same sectional density and BC as 162gr 7mm bullets. Above 140gr in 6.5mm, the bullets have some pretty impressive #s. All of that matters more beyond 400yds than it does inside of 400.

Certainly not an expert, but I think you have the gist. Most of this stuff is just nit picking. The main draw in my opinion to the Creedmoor over any other small-medium round is that factory ammo is generally excellent (yes better than even 308 ammo), and the rifles are chambered and throated correctly to fit that ammo. Combine both and it is the reason that creedmoors tend to be so easy to get shooting well. It’s also the same reason that the 6.5 PRC and 300PRC shoot factory ammo like they do.

If I had a 7mm-08 and wanted to shoot 120gr copper bullets, I probably wouldn’t move to a 6.5 unless I didn’t reload and the factory ammo didn’t shoot.

?

Every walmart I’ve been to in the last year from Washington state to Florida has had 6.5 Creedmoor. Every gun store, every gas station that has sold ammo too. If I were shooting monos exclusively, I wouldn’t choose either the 7mm-08 or 6.5 Creedmoor.

But not really sure what you’re looking for? I don’t think anyone has had said you must buy a 6.5.
If shooting monos exclusively which caliber would you choose?
